Not sure what your budget is, but I would suggest considering Pi 2, the performance bump is significant.

May also be worth looking at the thin clients Rouxenator is selling, they would do well for media playback.

Pi 1 or Pi 2? Pi2 I'm guessing? It's confusing because they both have a B model.

The original Pi model B will struggle with Plex...

I got the Pi2 model B recently from RS Component for R418 excluding shipping.

I have the original Pi model B and it doesn't exactly "struggle". The interface is pretty laggy, but the playback is smooth, even for 1080p video. Having said that, I wouldn't even consider anything but the Pi2 right now. Looking at the prices, the Pi2 is much better bang for your buck.

Was referring to the menus and stop/pausing/fast forwarding/rewinding and not the playback - should have mentioned that.

Playback is smooth as silk on all the models.

I stream from a HP Proliant Micro server to the pi and with the Pi1 it was a painful process - with the Pi2 it is a dream.

That's interesting. On what do you run Plex? I'm running OpenELEC 5.0.7 on my Pi 1 Rev B and the menus are pretty laggy. I was considering an upgrade to a "proper" HTPC, but if you say the Pi 2 runs okay, I may very well opt for that instead.

Pi 2 B or latest one depending on price
Will only use for PMS that's all and not streaming directly off it.
