Just check on the disk sizes it can handle. I have an older one (Vantec) which can handle max disk size of 750GB.

This can be a problem. I have one that is limited to 2TB

Is that not perhaps an OS fault? I have an old Vantec and on my mac it has handled up to my biggest HD (2TB) without an issue.
