Anyone playing this?

Got it yesterday, went in quickly this morning to have a look around, it looks freakin amazing I say. In the 5 min that I played I managed to shoot down one bloke, felt pretty proud of myself considering nothing is set up yet and I haven't done the tutorial.

Looking forward to going home this afternoon, going to get into it first thing.

Had a drink before going home yesterday, fired it up and played a few matches, holly hell its hard, I spent at least 7 minutes behind a guy before I managed to hit him. The controls (with mouse as yoke) are very "wobbly" for want of a better term and delayed with an intermittent deadzone, making it really very difficult to hit a tiny fast moving target.

I still have to delve deep into the setup, will definitely be changing to my controller so I can use the rudder properly, with the keyboard it rapidly pulls you in the direction you want then when you leave the button rapidly goes the other way.

Spent some flying high above everyone else so I could watch them, loads and loads of inexperienced guys to pick on later, see they like to go for ground targets I suppose in an effort to get points quickly. Also saw some well-experienced guys, watched a series of high altitude split s's all the way to the ground with 3 guys in the same fight constantly changing position not firing once then just one burst from one being sold a dummy with a controlled stall and its all over, was very entertaining.

this SOUNDS damn hard.. so you also get to rank up?? upgrades etc ?

Yeah was supposed to choose what I'd like to start researching and so on but I hit alt F4 as by then the booze made reading difficult

You should install it and come join me.

What I've done is got a spreadsheet that's got all the planes and their respective information and research trees so I can see ahead what I'd like to have, I'm definitely going to go soviet, they don't have brilliant craft but they have very good armor early on for very few research points as well as a couple of light armored planes which I can take better advantage of as I've got more experience with nimble things, thing A6M Zero with armor. Also learned to stay away from British things, they are really very expensive for not a lot of plane even though most of their stuff are allrounders.

Little bit before and quite a bit after, there are loads of jets as well but I have no interest in them appart fro the handfull of WW2 jets, would love to try and fight in those in the simulation mode as they were very very finicky back then.

The British planes are very good, things like the Mosquito are brilliant but they simply cost too much in game currency for what they are worth, also everyone knows them so as soon as they see you they'll know your strengths and weaknesses and will exploit them quickly. I see guys in slow light planes wait to be chased by something fast and heavy, then they pull up and stall mid air causing the enemy to come past because they can't stop so fast, so then they are behind them and can catch up before they can use their power to pull away.

I think most have played/tried this already (I would hope so). It's been pretty popular since it's 2013 Steam release. You can go full arcade mode (simple flight model) and play using only a mouse or you can go full simulation mode and absolutely needing a HOTAS. Haven't played much since around 2015 and recently went in and felt a bit overwhelmed with the sections you have to put skill points in. I remember when they added Tank battles which are pretty damn impressive and ended up playing that mode more. Now they even got boats.

Started playing this during lockdown, mostly tank arcade more (which has it's own occasional bombing and dogfights as part of it). Slowly working through each countries tanks up to rank 5 (then the grind just gets too much)
