Hey guys & gals,

So i've taking my time leveling a lock. In fact when i rolled this toon, she was meant to be my banky, but then decided to give her a chance, then untill 3weeks ago, never touched her for nearly 6months.

I have finally got her to lvl78 and i must say, i'm really enjoying it. But i was thinking that i should start planning for the day that reach lvl80, which should be soon.

So can anyone recomend good gear to collect, & or what mats to start collecting for gear. I've been told that I should get the Ebonweave Robe and gloves.

Any advice or suggestions.

1 more thing. I know that there is a DPS spreadsheet for hunters, is there something like this for lockes or is there a site i can check to advise on gear and stuff?

http://wowmb.net/ probably the best place to mine 'lock info. Took mine to 62, switched over to a mage and enjoying that much more.

TBH DjStyles, I would not bother collecting mats to craft gear. It is expensive and they will be upgraded in a matter of a few runs. If you are in a guild that runs Naxx 10 or 25 I would not bother. It is quick and easy to gear up in Heroics and Naxx 10. Get hit capped first, then start stacking spell power, crit and haste. There are a lot of very nice rep items that you can pick up that are iLvl 200. Gear is so easy to get I kitted my Priest out in an assortment of iLvls 213 to 226 in a matter of a few weeks.

Naxx 25 is super easy. We even managed to get the Dedicated Few achievement in Naxx 25 with a mix of alts and pugs. I run casual/alt Naxx 25 man runs every Sunday in my guild and my main requirement that everyone who wants to join has the Superior achievement (all iLvl 200s).

As for Warlock DPS, check out Elitist Jerks. They have the best specs and talk about gear there as well.

Then Ebonweave Gloves and Rope should be good enough to get your DPS on standard with NAXX.

Also spec 00/41/30 to get the most out of your DPS before you get to a decent gear level (2500+SP) then go Affliction.

Just my 2c

@Pitbull.... why Affliction? I thought Destruction was the better spec now for a warlock?

That might have changed, I haven't played my Lock in a while. As things where, Affliction was the top DPS tree on boss fights vs Demo or destruction. Why allot of people go for Destruction is based on the Big burst damage in PvP and the AoE damage in raids. But it's the boss fights where the damage count.

But like I said, I haven't played for a while. No idea what changes might have happened :o

Destruction is now the top DPS tree. Affliction was hit pretty hard with the nerf bat.

3.0.9 were the olden ages of Affliction..
Now that they have made Immolate and Unstable Affliction not work together, our DPS has dropped a lot..
Right now, spec 00/41/30 Fire spec, like Pitbull said. You will knock out some serious DPS (mostly crit based) even in sub-par gear.
If you are a tailor, which i dont think you are, the crafted pieces are nice to start off with. Otherwise its not really worth the cost...
Check on Atlas all the epic drops from heroics to start you off, nice and easy.
Epic wand from AN i think, ring from Strat, get the sword from Kirin Tor rep. And hat of wintery doom is awesome when you first hit 80.
+Hit first, stack SP, and if you are going fire spec stack crit as much as possible..
Goodluck.

I recall reading about some talents being built into others. (Is this the nerf you are referring too?) I also read now that Affliction now has a chance on crit per tick (This is nice).

Well seems like Destruction it is then :p

Sorry for the incorrect info I gave then :( But good advice is the 00/41/30 built till you have nice gear ;)

My lock doesnt do tailoring. I didnt consiously concern myself with gear until I actually hit lvl 80. I just focused on levelling. Once I got to level 80, I just ran heroics with the guild. I didn't go out of my way to farm a particular boss for any item. I just whispered "i'll go" in guild chat whenever someone asked for dps to whichever heroic. One day I noticed that i only needed 1 dungeon for the Northrend heroic dungeon achievement. So I asked in guild chat for a run there and completed it.

Then I just signed for Naxx 10 man. The gear kind of just comes along. I spent all my gold on my choppa :), and then artisan flying skill for my alts :)

Fortunatley I'm in a guild where they dont stress that you MUST have xxx dps and you must have xxx heroic gear.

For a good website for advice on spell rotation and talents, google "warlock den". Loads of info there.

My current spec is Demo/Destruction with talents in Demo down to Felgaurd and talents in Destruction down to maximise Incenerate. Might even be 00/41/30. My second talent tree is affliction. I rather enjoyed affliction, but it is nerfed. I might change that to a deep destruction build.

I am currently experimenting with focusing on haste instead of crit. Got my haste to 30%, while keeping my hit rating at about 370.

I have to say that being able to fire off those extra incenerates while immolate is up is cool. And when the shammy does his haste buff thing for the raid, oh my. its like a chain gun :)

Yeah the demo/destruction fire build is amazing when u have low/medium gear.
Destrustion is currenctly the best spec BUT if you stack a shizzle load of SP then affliction can still decimate all.
Its just EXTREMLY spellpower reliant as not all of your dots can crit. I think its corruption, UA, possibly CoA. Correct me if im wrong..
I love affliction, always have and always will. There is nothing more satisfying that getting your rotation 100% spot on for a 8-10min fight, then seeing that you killed everyone in the damage report.
DPS doesnt matter in my opinion, its damage done that matters. And affliction crunches the big numbers, even after the nerfs.
80% of raiding warlocks go destruction for the big crits and DPS, they cant be asked to bother with affliction. More space for the affys then :)

so if I level my ally lock to 80 on dentarg is there and casual SA ally Guilds on dentarg or any other server I could join? That runs naxx for fun...

@ DjStyles

Best built right now is destro, 0/13/58 or thereabouts. Buzzkill uses 0/17/54.
Cast sequence is as follows:
COD -> Immolate -> Chaos Bolt -> conflag -> incinerate*4/5 -> conflag -> immolate etc etc.
Make sure you keep immolate up and use conflag and Chaos Bolt as soon as they are available, the more conflags you can get into your rotation the better. Remember to refresh COD on boss fights too.

Higher DPS = more damage done, so I would concentrate on getting that number up - there is a reason why it is the defacto measurement for raid performance.

I love affliction but it just cannot perform against the new destro build.

I have done, say, 2k DPS berfore, and been top of damage done. Whereas a mage has done, say, 3k dps and been below me.
DPS is damage per second.. Look at a shammy, who can whip out 5k+ DPS but be far below others on damage done.
Just because you have amazing burst damage doesnt mean you are the top damage dealer.
And the reason DPS is the way we measure raid performance is because you cant exactly ask someone 'what was you damage done for so-and-so and so-and-so'
DPS is for noobs who like to burst aka mages and shammys, or huntards.
Damage done is where it is at!

Burst damage is quite relevant in many situations, such as Emalon and having to burst down the marked mob, or another example, that boss in Old Kingdom that sacrifices a mob and enrages. For the most part, sustained 'damage done' is important on tank 'n spank bosses but how often are those the problems? As far as I can tell, there are no such gear checks like the days of Brutallus. Maybe Patchwerk, but gearing past Patch these days is easy enough.

Playing a mage now, arcane and still levelling, I've seen the effect that being able to unload a metric crapton of DPS when needed can have on a run. It's nice to be able to blow something away right now if i need to, even if it shreds my mana pool and results in mediocre overall damage done. By getting rid of the dangerous mobs quickly, I know I'm helping the healer in the group.

So I disagree. High DPS is quite important in many encounters, it's not just about damage done.

This man speaks the warlock truth.

I like this build for several reasons but the key points are simple. There are several variations but the core talents will be the same. Remember that Demonic Aegis is incredibly powerful (234sp and 39% of spi talented)

  • More Conflags = More Backdraft = Higher DPS
  • CoD may be switched out for CoE if the raid requires it
  • Include Lifetap in your cycle to keep the glyph up

Glyph choices are important as well. My choice glyphs are

  1. Conflag - Pretty big DPS increase saving those GCD's
  2. Lifetap - Obvious increase to SP if you have the spi (you should)
  3. Immolate - Increases Conflag damage as well

P.S some people switch out pyroclasm for Shadowburn and Shadowfury

EDIT: Doing this will clock you in at 2500DPS on the dummy in pre heroic gear (2 pieces ebonweave and dagger assuming you have about 300 hit rating ofc)

Fortunately for Mr DjStyles he has a very benevolent and helpful Dictat... er.. GM. :) and guild who would like nothing more than to help the lock get the best dps out there.

Head: Hat of Wintry Doom
Neck: Titanium Spellshock NEck
Shoulder: Runecaster's Mantle
Chest: Ebonweave Robe
Bracers: no fricking clue
Gloves: Ebonweave gloves
Legs: Frostmoon Pants? Or would Frostsavage be better?
Feet: Aurora Slippers
Ring1: Titanium SPellshock
Ring2: Runed Mana Band to start with
Trinket1: dunno...
Trinket2: how much gold do you have?
Weapon: Titanium Spellblade
Offhand: Faces of Doom or Prison Manifest

And that should be credible in naxx I'd say. Not hit capped but well on the way there.

Im not discrediting DPS at all. Of course it has its benifits and obvious points.
Im just saying that people like to show off there BIG DPS.. big whoop.
DPS doesnt make a boss go down, damage done does.
As a raid leader im more proud of an affliction lock who has to work his ass off staring at dot timers all the raid, compared to a crit-crazy destro lock who has high DPS because he crits for 12k every 5 seconds.
I think looking at a players DPS it is an extremly inaccurate way of judging said players skill.
Some classes can do amazing DPS yet fail at damage done.
Does that mean that a player who does 2k DPS and tops damage done if worse, or better for that matter? no..
I dont know who im arguing to or what im on about now that im finished xD
