What up,

So after being a pvp whore for many years ive decided to check out pve, now i have some questions with the old lock.

Note i am affliction specced

1) What is the sort of hit rating you should be aiming for?
2) What spell rotation should i be using? Currently i Haunt - UA -Corrup - CoA, then SB, then i continue to do so until dots run low, then i rinse repeat.
3) Crit or haste after hit? Surely crit?

1) If you are Horde aim for 11% hit rating, Alliance 10% (Suppression, Heroic Presence, Imp. FF/Misery will make up the rest up to 17%).
2) Start with SB, Haunt (to max out the SE stack), and then just keep Corr, UA and CoA up with SB as filler. Most importantly, never let Haunt drop. DS when target is below 25%.
3) Haste is vastly superior over crit for locks of any spec.

OK sweet, thanks a lot. You wouldnt want to share your talent spec would you? ANd what pet is best to have?

1. Hit rating :There are some foods which also give you hit rating if you fall short. Note that you only really need to be hit capped for 25 man raiding. My lock's hit rating was under 200 while doing 10man Nax and i dont remember ever missing. While gearing up for 10 man, just get gear with +spell pwr. The hit rating gear is in the raid dungeans and you can gem and enchant for hit rating in the meantime. Until your are running about with gear with item level 200, dont worry about your dps sucking. Its still work-in-progess.

TheSolumnOne has summarised terrabytes of info that has been written on these 3 questions. Most importantly that haste is superior to crit for locks.

For Affliction in 3.1, you use either Doomguard, or Infernal, or Succubus.

Infernal does most damage out of the three, but only lasts for 1min.

Basically, use Doomguard if the spell is not on cooldown. Otherwise, use Succubus. Then, when boss is around 30% HP remaining, pop the Infernal (Not when you have Doomguard out though, would be a waste).

is the cast time for summoning a pet, even with talents to reduce it worth it ? Your Dots expire and thats quite a number of shadow bolts/incinerates you could have cast in those 20-30 seconds
