Warlock Woes...

Well times are changing and pretty much most people 'feel' geared enough to run heroics with less than ideal groups.
This has lead some warlocks to learn how to cc in heroics, well it has for me anyway.
I think the most important thing for a loc to have in his arsenal is a target focus seduce macro. This will allow you to reseduce with one button without needing to reselect the mob and click seduce.
I could post an awesome version of this macro but only once I’m home

Secondly if CC is lacking I have no problem fearing in an instance. At times its somewhat risky but nothing like testing your groups structure with an unforeseen pull... hehe not :P

Anyway when I’m asked to fear I do this. Select the mob , once the pull is initiated hit the mob with searing pain. Then run to a safe zone, each instance has its own ie around a corner , in another room or just far from the pull. While running the mob will gain some ground on you, np, have a pot or HS rdy . If up, ill open with coil and fear in the safe zone.
If the mob starts running towards another group simply CoR the mob, (which will stop the fear and he’ll chase you again) and run deeper into the safe zone and then CoW and reaaply fear if needed
Once you master controlling fear with CoR and CoW ,you can pull off some amazing feats ;)
Unfortunately this method can really dampen your dps because you have to focus a lot on the controlling your CC.
Now the really tricky part is when asked to seduce and fear .. gl with that :F

I'm a lowb alt lock and I fear every damn chance i get. I fear a mob and then fear his friends and siphon+dotstack them all up, and more often than not end up with 5+ dead mobs to go loot scattered all over the map. I fear critters. I fear Alliance just for the lol of it and watch them run into packs of mobs. I'd fear fellow hordies if I could. Yes it often results in my rather unpleasant death at the hands of an angry army but hey - for the amount of _fun_ it generates, it's worth it. Warlocks give you the feeling of being OP without actually being that OP. It's when all your carefully laid nefarious plans go pear-shaped that you realise this.
I think I will finally be in my element once I get me some Howl of Terror and Deathcoil.

NEVAR fear in raids, unless you want to be playing with 4 sets of mobs, which come to think of it we do for fun :P

The more the merrier in my opinion as tankadin :P
Otherwise i have to downgrade my tank set just so that i can actaully take some damage and get some healing so that i dont go oom.
(For those that dont know , tankadins get mana back from getting healed.)

Wow awesome posts guys. Thank you very much! I've just read everything & read it over again.

I'm going to go Affliction do a few Heroics if I can & a few Kara runs. I'm not going to go hardcore though, just thought it would be fun to do some PvE.

Im trying to get a few Shadoweave & Spellstrike items. Should have them by Friday & I'll take it from there.

I've found a dedicated PUG group for Kara & Heroics, so I think I'll be ok.

Thanks again guys for the great advice! :D

I also want to echo what Dusk said, that Demo is a damn good option to start raiding with because you get some nice talents in the tree that boosts your damage. I would go as far as to call it the top spec if you want to start raiding if you do not have good gear yet.

Agreed - a demo / affliction build can provide nice utility and dps for lower end gear (less crit / hit / dmg - felguard can add about an extra 200 dps).

With WotLK around the corner though, you only have a couple of months to see content - don't count on seeing past T5 or even getting there.

Fearing in instances is rare, but any lock with a bit of skill can add CC (TK, Hyjal, MgT to name a few) with CoR.

Shadow Destro is quite powerful, if you are worried about mana consumption then just sac your felpuppy. DPS race fights it is always worthwhile saccing the succubus for some good cream your pants damage (high crit rating is needed - even with just over 1200 shadow damage you will be hitting 7500 - 8k crits np). Get a boomkin and elemental shaman in same group as you for extra lulz :)

The entire dynamic of DS SnF revolves around your succy buff. Mana should never be a problem for a warlock, ever(even on Kaz’ragol). It’s all about incorporating Life tap correctly into your bolting cycle. If your bolting to 10% mana and then say **** I’m almost OOM and tap like 4-6 times , that’s not only dampening your dps but ooming your healers. Tap once between 3-4 bolts depending on your max mana and if a SP’s in your group.

Otherwise the only time I wouldn’t sacrifice a succy is when grinding or questing, where ill sac a void and tap the regend health into mana

Murdoc is 100% right - true warlock - always use few spells - tap themself , then again. Usualy in my raids - 2 warlocks shaman mage and shadow priest never finish mana/life and almost never healers heal them. Thats also the most powerfull combination/group that will ever be on top of dmg meters.

no...

BM hunter, shaman, feral druid combo beats most.

My ideal raid group have 2x BM hunters, 1x Feral druid, 1x Shaman, 1x dps warrior)

I would idealy have a Moonkin together with high dps mages and warlocks, shaman and shadow priest is a nice to have. So maybe 1x warlock 1x mage 1x moonkin, 1x shaman, 1xspriest. Though a group with 3 mages shaman and moonkin would be nice as well ;)

I dont believe you can really say what group setup is best DPS wise. Every fight favors different setups. In some fights enhance shaman/rogue/rogue/dps war/feral druid beats all, in some fights mage/mage/lock/elemental shaman/spriest beats all. The point Im trying to make is saying a specific group setup is best dps is stupid.

Well actually you can, since some combinations is imba. BM hunter combinations seems to top just about every bos fight in WoW. So not knowing this can be considered stupid as well ;)

This has gotta be one of the most informative & coolest threads ever! Just wanted to thank you guys again!

I did Kara for the first time last night & it was awesome. I'd forgotten just how much fun PvE can be.

I've also followed what you guys said & think I've got my cycle down now. I pannicked a few times with mobs, but I think I've gotten the hang of things now.

Dont know why I ever stopped PvE! <3

Cheers! :D

Enjoyment of PVE progress is directly related to the quality of the guild you are in. PVP is less reliant on quality/cohesion of your peers.

Kids on vent, one of the things that comes to mind. Raiding with mature members FTW.

PVE is about being able to wipe as a group and laugh about it, it's about learning through mistakes and trusting your fellow raid members

it's not about one of your cloth dps who is building a tank arguing with you over aggro mechanics as he can't understand why a body pull doesn't hold aggro the moment i have to pop a heal on him
