What about if it's ported to your prepaid product?
Well either I guess, I didn't think there would be a difference.
So if I have at least some prepaid airtime then my ported sim will not expire?
Hi.I have observed that I receive a small amount of airtime on my MTN sim every month. Is this something Afrihost does to prevent the sim from expiring?
Using Data on Afrihost's APN is not recognised as an activity on the MTN Network, so clients with OPT-IN Prepaid SIM cards need to ensure that there is activity on the SIM that is being recognised by MTN. And that can be loading airtime, sending out SMSes, receiving or making calls. If you send an SMS from a prepaid MTN sim it also keeps it alive. My kids both have one and after having one number reassigned we set up a monthly reminder for them to send us an SMS and confirm it reached us (Sometimes have to add airtime). The kids mostly use the phone as a data device but apparently that is not enough.
Is this still a thing?I just thought I should make this known just in case someone "falls foul" of this. In my case, it was just free data I lost, but in your case, it may not be.
If you only use your prepaid sim for Afrihost Mobile Data, MTN can and will eventually reissue the sim card to another customer. The only way to avoid this I'm told by MTN support is to make a paid call on the MTN Network once every 3 months. Not worth the effort, especially if the Sim is used in a MiFi Router.
As a result, one of my prepaid sims linked to Afrihost has been issued to another customer so far. In my Clientzone, it now shows up as "Consent not given".
I doubt that MTN would be willing to do anything to assist in this regard, but in my case it really doesn't make a big difference, but in your case it might, so I figured I'd let everyone know.
I recommend that anyone purchasing a paid Mobile package from Afrihost gets their Sim straight from Afihost until this issue has been resolved.
How do you do this when it's only inside router? There's no functionality to make a call / send sms from the router itself afaik. Also loading airtime on that would be pointless.Using Data on Afrihost's APN is not recognised as an activity on the MTN Network, so clients with OPT-IN Prepaid SIM cards need to ensure that there is activity on the SIM that is being recognised by MTN. It is not something that can be preconfigured by you can load airtime to the mobile data SIM from your banking app from time to time. How do you do this when it's only inside router? Perhaps this one of the times reading from a script doesn't work?It is not something that can be preconfigured by you can load airtime to the mobile data SIM from your banking app from time to time.

@Herr der Verboten If you will be using an OPT-IN SIM Card for an Afrihost Air Mobile package, you will need to ensure that there is activity on the SIM Card that MTN recognises. This is to avoid the SIM Card from being deactivated.Perhaps this one of the times reading from a script doesn't work?
Let's back track to see where it's gone of the rails:

Please tell me how would I make a phone call with my router?

You are being difficult for no reason here. Atleast Afrihost is informing you what will happen when no activity is being detected on the sim. So if you are going to use a portable wifi router or whatever router for you Afri package, then it is your responsibility to keep the sim active.Perhaps this one of the times reading from a script doesn't work?

You do realise this is being used in a device which can't do what you are asking?@Herr der Verboten If you will be using an OPT-IN SIM Card for an Afrihost Air Mobile package, you will need to ensure that there is activity on the SIM Card that MTN recognises. When you get the mobile MTN SIM from us, it is not subjected to deactivation; we send R2.36 to the client's sims after 80-something days to prevent it from being cancelled.
It you your responsibility to ensure that you do the necessary things for the sim to be kept active. It's called a mobile package for a reasonYou do realise this is being used in a device which can't do what you are asking?
If you are unable to comprehend the OP/My question then it is perhaps better to park it here and I'll take it up with someone else.
If you don't want to go through all that admin, get an LTE SIM or a mobile SIM directly from Afrihost. You do realise this is being used in a device which can't do what you are asking?
