Ok so i have a CC and buy computer parts and generally sell them to my friends at cheaper prices...

I am now having a issue with a supplier where a 2TB HDD (roughyl 1 year old) with a 3 year warranty has gone faulty. I took it back to them and they say that model is no longer made and they will swap it out for an equivalent price one, Now HDD's have become a lot more expensive then when this was bought so they are saying they can replace it with a 1TB Drive... now from the way i see it this cant be legal, i mean it would be the same if i bought i 42" TV at game on special came back a few months later and they wanted to give me a 32" i wouldnt accept that.

So basically is it legal what they are doing if so there really should be some act that protects against this ?

Like for like or better, not worse, when they send it to the supplier they will get the same offer

Dealer seems to be finnicky to give their stock and wait for a swapout, tell them to sod off and swap it or you'll report them to the manufacturer

The warranty on the drive should say that if defective, it must be replaced with an identical product, or one that is as similar as possible. So the supplier is basically trying to get around the manufacturer's warranty, which is almost certainly illegal. At the very least they are ripping you off.

Get in touch with the manufacturer directly and explain the situation to them. This supplier could be doing the same thing to thousands of other customers.

No effing way, this has rip-off written all over it. They will likely give you a 1TB costing them 1k, then get a new 2TB from the manufacturer and resell that for 2k to someone else. Turning a cool 1k profit from your misfortune.

Tell them to either swap the drive according to the warranty or you will contact the supplier or agents.

I agree, don't take a refund. Tell them either to give you an equivalent product or you will be contacting the supplier directly yourself. Ask them to show you where in there returns policies they can give you a lesser product.
