Ok, so my first xbox 360 lasted about 10 months and died, my second one about 5 seconds and my third one was ok-ish - gave red ring on start up but I switched off and back on and worked fine for about 4 months and then RROD again, and then worked for a while and then RROD again and now ever so often just wont read discs so I must eject 4 - 8 times and then it starts to read.
So anyhow got tired of this, took it direct to MI digital and now they say I must pay R650 because replacement XBOX only has 3 months warranty WTF...is this true?
What nonsense...if this is the case then XBOX can join the rubbish heap, Im not paying R650 every 3 - 6 months for a replacement...what happened to the 3 year warranty, man I is so crosss:mad:

Um.. if you've taken it back so many times, take them the proof...

As I said, this is my third one I need to replace, they know at MI digital, thats why they want to charge me because I have had this one longer than 3 months....so my ? is what happened to the damn 3 year warranty...m$ run out of moola for replacement consoles?

Man one way to turn someone back to Sony, especially as PS3 come down in price, was under 5k in the papers this weekend

yeah I work at a retail store and we have stopped selling the xbox due to MI Digital's trouble we only stock ps3 and wii both awasome consoles.

The "new" warranty should be stated on the paperwork or made very clear to you on the receipt of the new console.
Otherwise the warranty will be the same as per the original purchase.

That is not a particularly wise decision of your store labratza, considering the sales of the ps3 vs the 360.

Is the 360 an import?

Those are completely different beasts..

The 3 year warranty covers the RROD from date of initial purchase, which yours still falls into. The warranty does not cover faulty drives.

All warranties are from date of initial purchase so your normal 1 year warranty should still apply, but if that is out then that is how they are getting you.

Why are you going to Mi Digital and not the retailer though?

Hi
I have 2 issues - RROD and disk not reading CD's, but either way MI are not interested and claim that they only give a 3 month warranty on the replacement unit.
Originally purchased from Game - but they were totally clueless when I went there the first time, and had no stock, so was easier to go to MI direct.
So now what? Where has the 3 year warranty gone?

The 3 year warranty still applies to RROD consoles.

MiD may think you have an import, (which they support but do charge for).

Phone them back and make sure they know that it is a local console bought from a local retailer.

If they still refuse send me an email and I will follow up with them (support @lazygamer.co.za)

Hi
I have 2 issues - RROD and disk not reading CD's...

How can you have both? If it's RROD, then obviously you can't play any games? And if it's a problem reading dvd's, then you don't have the RROD? Or am I missing something?

RRoD is not always terminal. My launch console also RRoD'd twice before it finally gave up the ghost. Both previous times, I switched the console off & on again and it worked fine...

The last time it RRoD'd I took a photograph of the console flashing its RRoD, with the powerbrick's GREEN light visible, to be able to prove my case IF it magically cures itself again... which it didn't :D

Loving my new Elite

Just clearing up what's already been said:

If it's a local console, (any actually) you have a 3 year warranty from the initial date of purchase on the consoles and any replacements thereof. Ie even if it's already been replaced the initial warranty holds, or if near the end of the 3 years you get a 3 month warranty on repair units as well for RRoD and non-RRoD repairs.

As far as Game goes, if it's less then a year old take it back to them and they'll give you your money back, go buy a new one elsewhere. (That's what I did)

Yip, the RROD has not been fatal. It just jams everything but a switch off has been fine, I think its been 4 - 5 of these.
Now it sometimes RRODs and sometimes doesnt read CDS and sometimes won't open the CD tray - moody bugger.

If it's a local console, (any actually) you have a 3 year warranty from the initial date of purchase on the consoles and any replacements thereof.

Purchase date of the original console was 20/12/2006 so its almost 1.5 years old. Last one was changed in nov 2007. According to Kathy at MI Digital the replacement consoles only have a 3 month warranty, as I said in the first post WTF this is the first I have ever heard of this (I would have taken it back the same day as it did the first RROD on start up).
Kathy also claimed that they have no Xboxes in stock (HUH?) but she will take it up with one of her managers to see if they can assist, but don't they have to?

So then I have a locally bought console, it is less than 3 years old, it is RROD on occassion, moody when reading CDS, so what is this nonsense that I have to pay R650 for a warranty swop out? Either these have a 3 year warranty or they don't, when did a payment of R650 suddenly creep in, or are MI Digital punishing us for having broken consoles? I don't get it...

Anyone experiencing this much misfortune in owning an Xbox has me wondering what condition it's kept in? It's not usually the the console as much as the PSU (that huge grey box with the completely unconventional power socket that connects to the unit) that needs to be ventilated to reduce risk of RROD.

Dude, you dont have to wonder - you can just ask.
Xbox is looked after very well...I have invested in tooo many games, the Xbox is like one of the family except I take better care of it.
Its just that the first one lasted ok, about 10 months, the second was a disaster out of the box and the current third did the RROD on start up but it wasn't fatal so I just kept it, but it has been dying slowly, but as I thought what the heck it has a 3 year warranty, not too concerned, boy was I wrong!:sick::mad:

If you're making sure you're system is kept cool enough I'd unfortunately put it down to poor luck although you should get one of the better consoles when you have it returned with the new one. TBH I'm looking forward to mine giving me a RROD so I can get a model with HDMI :D

i'd say they're trying to make a quick buck off you... you obviously have a lot more patience than I do...

...
So then I have a locally bought console, it is less than 3 years old, it is RROD on occassion, ...

So there's you answer right there, forget the rest of the nonsense, it RRoDs occasionally that's it, it's covered by the 3 year warranty, end of story, keep your R650, take no other answer, be polite, firm and go collect a new console and don't accept one that doesn't have a copper heat pipe. If they don't have stock, that's a different issue.
