Sounds like a maintanance plan to me, A service plan wouldn't include brakes.

Wife's Honda went for its final maintenance plan service. Got a bill for R7280,00
Brake pads front and rear
Windscreen washer pump and bottle (plastic bottle and bracket cost R1900, pump R2300)
Drain plug nut and washer for oil, same for CV fluid
Only the oil filter, air filter, oil, CV fluid is covered

A reliable indy could have done the brake pads for a fraction of the dealership fee.

Led should outlast the ownership of the car. We have 2x7yr old cars with led all round and it's fine. Sounds like a design flaw causing overheating

I've been driving for 25 years and all sorts of cars - I've never ever replaced a light bulb. So yea, I do agree with you that something doesn't add up and it points to a defective bulb (or car wiring) from the start. I'm not going to fight with them because it hasn't happened to me - but the amount of times I've read shows a big issue.

I have replaced plenty light bulbs over the years but all of the older filament type with the newest cars being my 2005 VW 9n Polo and 2004 Audi B6 A4 Avant.

The last line in their post says only fluids were covered? I read the post that they were given an invoice to be paid for other items like the brakes...

my experience with these

Warranty - covers anything breaking for the predetermine km's, excludes wear and tear items, which are normally these items and similar:

• Brakes pads and discs
• Wipers
• Tyres
• Service items

Service Plan- includes only those items that would have been done the various services anyway.

Maintenance plan varies, depend on the brand, but it generally includes a servie plan and some wear & tear items, from my experience:

• Brakes pads and discs
• Wipers
• Service items

There are some confusion above. My coil pack packed up, and was replaced under warranty and not maintenance plan. My shocks and timing belt needed replacing and these were replaced under maintenance plan. Brake discs and pads and wipers - maintenance plan.

Thanks - yea that's where I was going.

One of the workshop managers joined the same Facebook group and said that no manufactruer would replace it - but I really don't feed that's true and probably handled on a case-by-case basis.

Perhaps that's a more premium brand does that Chery could learn from. If I had one of the cars & was paying R1.3k each time for a bulb, I don't think I'd get another

Yeah that’s bullshit, LEDs should be lasting the life of the car or at least a decade not even just the period of a warranty and should be replaced no question.

Shouldn’t really call it a bulb if it’s LED anyway as the entire array is what would need to be replaced. If it’s a bulb only then it’s not LED but also shouldn’t cost R1300.

VAGs are notorious for popping bulbs across all the different brands, but most other manufacturers actually not so much.

The R1.3k is for the front LED.

The back are normal (halogen) - but I’ve heard that both fail. And in the numbers that I’ve seen them fail, they NEED to step in

If they are referring to globes then it can’t be LEDs.

Then I would question if the car is sleeping outside.

4 times across the car in two years is actually not that crazy and exactly what I’ve experienced with VAGs.
If it’s the same light 4 times that would be a bit different.

Reason they would pop like that is when you change the one bulb the resistance “chain” changes and in time the other older bulb is overworked and also pops. Usually you replace them all once and then it stops, but clever people will just replace them all at once in a pair.

Generally why they are sold in pairs as well.

But bulbs you are talking about R50 for the rears and maybe R200-R300 at the front.

Even a Chery parts manager joined the group and told me no one covers bulbs. Which I see he’s ‘technically’ right - but not at 12-24 months

This any reasonable dealer should just sort out as it costs next to nothing, but at the same time you’d not even notice the line item on an invoice.

@FiestaST has a whole thing about it but like I said generally the fail comes in with people onto replacing one at a time and shortly after the other side pops.

I tell you if the same thing happens to me, I won’t be as quiet as some of these people.

It feels that Chery made a huge dent in the SA market in a short space of time, but things like this are going to stop people buying the second time around and they’ll slowly fall out of favour locally.

They best start sorting these niggles out

I never replaced any on my Golf R and my Touareg hasn't needed anything either but with the common 'earthing/grounding' issues on VAG platforms I am not surprised bulbs can pop. My SIL's ex Tiguan used to blow HID/Xenon bulbs at least once a year.
