Was asked to resign at work

I had a very similar situation. I was employed to fulfill a certain role and after 3 months was told that I was under performing.
I don't agree that I was under performing, I was actually employed for a role that never materialized. I was not enjoying the role, I still believe I was over-qualified. I ended up taking a mutual resignation and sat at home for almost 4 months. My biggest problem was the fact that I wasn't in the role for more then 3 months. It looked really bad on my CV and recruitment agencies were not willing to look at my CV. The day I took the company off my CV (wrong I know - desperate times) I got tons of calls and was employed in less than 3 weeks. Loving my new job and performing really well.

Accept the resignation and rather spend your time finding the right job.

I would suggest the following:

1. Get everything in writing.
2. Ask for a written reference that you can attach to your CV. That will help you find employment a lot quicker.
3. Spend your time applying for relevant positions on every single job site available.
4. While you are at home, do lots of free online training courses (there are so many available). The last thing a recruitment agency wants to hear is "I was at home for 3 months looking for a job". Instead you can tell them you invested your time in online training courses and improved your marketability. This is only possible if you have internet at home.
5. Make arrangements with all your debtors. Inform them that you are unemployed and try to arrange payment terms for 3 months. If you do this upfront, they will gladly help. It will also ensure that your credit record doesn't get affected.

With all that being said, sometimes a role might not be right for you. The hardest part is accepting that and moving on. You will find the right role and you will be a great success at it.

I wish you the best of luck and I know how difficult your situation is. Don't lose hope, you will get through it.
Also don't just accept any role that comes your way, be selective and negotiate until all your requirements are met. You will be happier if you do.

Name of the company? Im interested to know as I had two friends experience the exact same. They both resigned.

I am also, curious, I have heard of this before from someone as well...but he probably shouldn't post it.

Well I am considering putting a name-and-shame section on one of my websites, called "Bad Employers" I am just worried about issues surrounding that.

You would need to be careful...

Some companies who do this whole "asking to resign" thing like sneaking in non-disclosure clauses etc etc...
