James Michener in The Covenant said that one day, the strained relations between Afrikaners and the Blacks would snap and the Afrikaners would (voluntarily?) be religated to an Afrikanerstan (c.f. Bantustan).

You people who are on the ground in SA--what to you think about this idea? Do you see a point in the future where the disparity in standard of living and resource control just become too much--or doesn't change fast enough--and something like that occurs, possibly through a war? Perish the thought, but I want to know what you all are thinking.

Doubt it. Neither "the Blacks" nor "the Afrikaners" and homogenous groups filled with people with the same thoughts.

Who is Michener and what is his claim to fame?

That kind of thing won't happen in large numbers, there are Afrikaaners who are trying to get land to run their own state, but the guavamint won't give it to them... Anyone else who is toooo unhappy is just leaving anyway...

Just out of interest... WTH is an American-African?
You mean African-America?
Anyone with African blood (white people excluded) who is also American.
In reality the majority of black Americans are mixed anyway. They would be coloureds in RSA and not Africans. (Funny how this race classification business just gets so complicated)

LOL
During the old apartheid I once knew a Nigerian who was born in Britain (allegedly). It really irked him that I was more African.:D

The same can be said for the Apartheid era, but that didn't stop them now did it?

I'd say this is plausible unless there are some drastic changes to government policy.

Naturally this pisses off all the darker colored Americans I tell this to, but screw them :)

Wow, he is not an african? I wonder what continent he is from. And here I thought LGM was an African in America. Mayb he is Australian.

duh  being of african descent does not mean one is from africa or out of africa... it refers to one's ethnicity.

I am of African Descent... My grandfather was born on this continent...

I'm sorry for anyone who has a problem with this, or thinks I am incorrect. I am a South African, and by definition am therefore an African. My skin colour is completely irrelevant to this issues, the location of my birth is the only deciding factor.

African Americans couldn't cut it in this continent if the tried, they're too used to their 1st world setup, however rubbish it is for them.

Your attitude pretty much somes up everything wrong with this country. You are clearly blinded by definitions and the ethnicities attached.

Skin colour does not come into play when dealing with one's origin.

An American-African is a person who was born in America but lives in Africa, which I did for four years (2000-2004) but no longer, more's the pity. So I'm not technically one any longer. All my South African friends used to give me strange looks when I told them that black folks in the US called themselves African-Americans even though they were many, many generations removed.

So ja, all this reminds me of my original question. Your responses have been interesting but how many of you are Afrikaners? It would seem to me that most people who would be interested in such a settlement would be rural, Afrikaans-speaking people, who are not as urbaized as most of us are and therefore would be more reluctant to bug out for the US, Australia, NZ, etc.

P.S. If any of you that are in the US would like to PM me and see where we live respectively that would be cool.

I totally agree with you. African = someone from Africa. I am someone from Africa.

Does the term Australian only apply to aussie aboriginals then?
