Watch dstv on ipad over wifi?

I want to watch dstv on my iPad or Mac anywhere over wifi. How?
Not drifta as I don't want to be limited to some channels only.
Have seen Slingbox in USA which allows you to watch your pvr remotely over Internet connection.
Why buy a tv for bedroom when I have an iPad ?
Any ideas - all input welcome!

I am keen to see if anybody have any advice. I have used the drifta on my 17 inch laptop but the picture is so small and if I increase the picture the resolution is not good.
 
The closest thing I found was this gadget that claims to transmit an HD output from set top boxes, Playstations etc to HDTV's wirelessly in 1080p. Not sure how to get it to transmit to an iPad.

You dont "transmit" to the ipad. iPad can access a wifi connection. You need an app which can identify and process the stream. It depends what the protocol of that wireless signal is. If its not a wifi protocol, then it's not possible. iPad is an Internet device.

Edit: googled "DSTV iPad" seems they do have an app. OP tried it ?

Yes. Agreed. The link I posted shows a way to get the signal from a DSTV decoder and broadcast it wirelessly. Maybe there is a way to receive this signal on a PC and use the PC to serve it up to the iPad using an acceptable protocol. Thats what I mean't by transmit. Sending a signal wirelessly IS transmitting no matter what the receiving device is.
 
I used to use my old eeepc + usb video capture + vlc to stream dstv to my pc's and blackberry. Recently I got lirc working with my dsd1110 so it is possible to change the channel from any pc/phone/tablet.
 
I used to use an app called WebGuide that used to stream live DSTV to my phone and laptop. It was browser based and worked quite well. Development was halted on it when Microsoft hired the guy that worked on it to be part of their Media Center division.
 
I run a Slingbox here in Joburg - purchased it in the UK, and deployed it here with only minor issues. I stream video from my DSTV decoder to my iPad and iPhone with ease. HOWEVER:

- Setting up the remote function is a PITA. Took a lot of research and a lot of time to get it to work - Inbox me when the time comes
- Streaming on my home network is perfectly smooth and high quality. I actually use it to watch TV on the dreadmill. In order to make it easier to use, I set up an Ellies IR repeater and just use the normal DSTV remote now, rather than the on-screen remote that comes with the software
- Streaming when I'm away is okay-ish, but obviously network dependant. When on a good connection anywhere in the world, I can watch without breaks in the stream, though the quality is auto-adjusted, and usually it looks quite ***
- Streaming over 3G is useless, though you CAN use it to access the PVR's menu and cue up things you'd forgotten, etc.

Overall, the device works a treat for me, since I mainly use it around the house...
 
Thanks to SkyMatix for the update re Slingbox working in SA with DSTV.
Just want to check that I understand. Inside the home how exactly do you connect the iPad
to Slingbox? Also - there should be no need to use any bandwidth if within range of your own wifi, right?
 
At home, on WiFi, there is no bandwidth issues. Since it doesn't use any paid for data, you can watch for ever with no additional cost.

I use the Slingplayer app on my iPad, which set met back $30 in the American iTunes store. You can use the web player too, but it isn't nearly as slick as the app.
