Watch - SpaceX Starship prototype explodes on landing

my point being, issues like this shouldn't happen publicly,
shareholders in spaceX wont like it, people that board a rocket wont like the fact this can happen.

TLDR: dont release a rocket crashing so spectacularly on TV.

SpaceX is privately owned.
Manned flights probably won't happen for a decade.
They show all this live for fun and because it's awesome.

You're an idiot.

but isnt the common phrase used to describe tweaking a setting or something tiny to make the result completely different called,
"back to the drawing board"

I agree, one doesn't throw away billions redesigning an entire rocket because it blew up.
but I do agree it shouldn't happen so publicly,
at the risk of bringing something else into mind,

look at the 737 MAX, Dumpster fire,
incremental changes, to a proven design, worked brilliantly.
in testing, test flights were successful, everything including the kitchen sink was thrown at this Jet.

got certified, hooray.
next thing, nasty images are splashed all over the worlds media of your BRAND new Jet,
crashing because of a feature they conveniently forgot to emphasize.

and this wasn't an unmanned drone, this was a production Jet with passengers.

what would probably help is the data or tests saying, yes its survivable,
so yes, it would turn into scrap metal, but you'll survive perfectly fine.

TLDR: dont release a rocket crashing so spectacularly on TV.

Again you're conflating two completely different types of issues. The 737Max was a litany of errors across the whole chain from Boeing to the FAA etc... It wasn't a prototype that failed, it was a design change that ultimately actually was NOT certified correctly.

SpaceX does things differently. They do iterative design, and rapidly. They don't shy away from making mistakes and learning from them. They're open about making mistakes and open about the learnings from those mistakes.

this wasn't unmanned, it was manned, and carrying 3 people.
what if this had gone wrong?

would it be "awesome" no it wouldn't.

yes I agree, need to break a few eggs to make an omelette
but cant be easy seeing this happen on TV with press/Shareholders watching.
(spaceX might be private, but surely they have shareholders?)

hence, back to the drawing board, in a literal sense,
not build a new rocket, but redesign what failed again.

Oh ffs...

That is a different system altogether, it had gone through rigorous testing, certification etc etc etc before a person was even vaguely allowed to be placed on top of it.

What the actual ****... Starship and Falcon are 2 completely different rockets and Falcon had 10 years of development, and MANY failures, before they put people on it. They'll do the same for starship.

You're making a right fool of yourself, again. Watch the Scott Manly YouTube video, educate yourself before commenting and maybe you can actually contribute to the discussion.

I'll say it again back to the drawing board,

any failure in anything that involves billions
should be dealt with better than saying

"oh it happens" I'm happy regardless.

it failed, and shouldn't have, not when so much testing, previous to this was done.

if my Rocket blew up when it should have gone perfectly, I still would be Pissed.
yes agreed, unforeseen things can and do happen, but not when you've done so much testing exactly to prevent this.

why is everybody okay with this? perfectionism when billions is at stake here is important.

next thing you know, you order Trains that cant fit in Tunnels
or build bridges that "should" be able to withstand X amount of weight.

I mean did some of the ANC thinking stay with Elon when he immigrated to the US?
its okay, spent billions on a rocket, blew up, no biggie, here's a Cheque for another 40 billion Dollars,
(maybe its Zim dollars, so who cares )

thats ANC thinking, vs German thinking,
and why the first rockets to the moon were German built.

good example here, ambitious project, took more than a month to get to the moon,

many Shekels spent on it, lots of Hummus consumed, and still failed.
sorry not good enough, back to the drawing board.

same here, almost, isn't good enough when Billions are at stake.

You obviously have zero clue about real world engineering, and pushing the envelope of human achievement

do you?

before you point fingers at me, for asking the hard and uncomfortable questions, and " let them off the hook"

if it fails, somebodies getting fired, even if its a prototype.
why accept anything less than perfection when you've spent so much?

You think everything can be modeled and simulated to EXACT real world performance? You think there is absolutely zero unpredictability in prototyping?

If it was the way you seem to think it is, there would be no need for testing or prototyping, just build the final article and put humans on it and gogogo!

You're not asking "uncomfortable questions", you're asking stupid questions because you don't understand but think you do.

No one is getting fired over this, in fact I'm pretty sure the whole team just earned themselves a massive bonus.

Until you know what the spaceX design philosophy is and why starship is the first ever flight proven rocket to use:

Stainless steel
Full stage flow combustion cycle engines
Cryogenic Metholox fuel
"Belly flop" decent to a designated landing pad
Tail landing

They did the first 4 flawlessly for the first time ever, not just for spaceX, for anyone.

The only "failure" was a fuel pressure loss at landing which they know already and likely are working on a fix for the next launch. While the failure was spectacular, the test was a massive success.

PS: this is about the 10th starship they've blown up...

maybe we measure "success" differently then,

if its the 10th they have blown up, what happened to the last 9?
also "successes", I guess then?
maybe that works for the ANC, but I doubt for Spacex.

point is, if its fails, its bad, why is this so hard to understand,
or their aren't any perfectionists at spacex,

or does Elon simply not care, their will be another Hundred "starships" and another few billions,
who cares if this one turns into scrap metal.

here is another "success"
look at the tiny microscopic country that launched a probe to the Moon, wow, there so smart, NOT.

Fek you seriously do not even vaguely understand the SpaceX iterative design process...
