First episode has been released and I enjoyed it. I am not buying this whole new Game of Thrones, but I will give it time. It seems a slow burn type of show. I loved all the hint dropping of the older characters from the original. I wonder if we will see in full appearances of the surviving older characters (The series is set after the comics / film ).

The one criticism is the death of Don Johnsons(Becoming the new mini Sean Bean in terms of his character getting bumped off) character it was kinda predicatable, but I ask myself why didnt he wear a mask like the other cops.

I can see this show will not be for everyone, just basing on the reaction for the film Captain Marvel on here, but on the flipside there is a story thread that can be very relatable here by some people.

Politically based trash with zero connection to the original work. No wonder Alan Moore didn't want to get involved.

Oh, there were no politics in the original comics?

Moore doesn't like adaptations in any case.

It sure wasn't "lets-have-a-stab-at-Trump-politics".
It's quite clear what side of the current American political scene this show is targeting.

I LOL'ed when I saw the evil white supremists with their Rorshach hoods in front of the biblical cross.

Truth be told, I read the episode synopsis on wiki and am not enthused about it. Seems like an in-name only sequel.

Also, President Robert Redford?

Reason I mentioned Captain Marvel is because of the reaction to the film. The Watchmen is basically female led. And my point is kind of proved already on this thread

Alan Moore didnt like any kind of adaption long before this, he was trying to hard to be 'edgy' , 'so far underground'

The problem with Captain Marvel wasn't that is was female-led. Captain Marvel got negative press because of Brie Larson and things she was saying in the media. Backlash against her and so they crapped on the movie. And of course they made her too powerful but I digress, there is another thread for Captain Marvel.

People really have no issue with female superheroes. Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Phoenix/Jean Grey (pity the movie bombed), are all popular with audiences. Big hype for the new Black Widow movie and the WandaVision series.

Then again the trio of aforementioned female superheroes were always well written as good characters and superheroes, not strong independent female superheroes, which is where show runners *cough* Supergirl *cough* go wrong. They tend to focus too much on the fact that its a woman and not a character, so you end up with a weak character who's only defining characteristic is the fact that she's a woman.
 
I enjoyed it, looking forward to see where it's going. The ending with the police badge having the blood smear on it, similar to the smiley face of the Comedian in the comics was a nice touch. His death kicks off the actual mystery, pretty much how the Comedian's did in the comic. I'm thinking we're going to find out that the police chief was more then a little corrupt.

There's some interesting stuff released on the HBO site, which starts filling in some gaps about how the show ties in with the comic. They're pretty much discarding the movie completely. Check it out if you're interested: https://www.hbo.com/peteypedia.

RE: Tulsa? Who the hell "attacks" anyone like that? Were they all drunk or high? Even the worst of the KKK can't be THAT moronic.

RE: the stabs at caricatures of "the right"..... do the writers even really know ANY conservatives personally? were the writers themselves high or drunk when they wrote this illogical incoherent mess?

The only possible purpose this show could possibly serve is to incite hatred. It reinforces myths about conservatives for leftists and proves that leftists are crazy to conservatives. All the worst aspects of the "other side" either real or imagined gets reinforcement. Also it reinforces the myth that police are violent thugs.

I do find it hillarious that the real KKK was originally completely DMC though, not one of them was a republican since the DMC was formed to fight the republican party in the first place though I might have a few facts wrong there.
 
Ah great... I was hoping for a decent series, not some leftist sjw drivel. Will still give the first episode a watch but can't people just leave the politics at home and just write a good show that everyone will enjoy.
 
Very intriguing first episode, which really wet my appetite.
Was confusing at first but got quite entertaining. I'm sure the opening scene will make more sense in the next episode and will have something to do with the man in the wheelchair.
The scenes with Jeremy Irons and his butler+maid threw me off. Cant figure our where/how they fit in.

You can safely skip, you are not missing a thing. No story, nothing to do with source material + usual pollical messaging over entertainment and cancel culture garbage from reboot generation with no ideas of their own.

What can I say? It was a ****ing awesome first season of Watchmen. It was incredibly well put together, and it honoured the comics without any interference. Episode 9 was incredible.
 
Really enjoyed this series, this and Legion are probably my favourite superhero type shows this decade, by far.

And something interesting to ponder, the poster for the show sort of expands on the unanswered question of the final scene, and it's been there right in front of us all this time:

But it's not really Watchmen you say?

Yeah, no, it is... Either that or Dr Manhattan, Ozymandias and Silk Spectre were part of *another* vigilante group story Alan Moore wrote but never published... Obviously.

I'mma say it... The show was better than the novels... and... the show also makes the novels better. It expands and enhances the Watchmen universe in a way I haven't seen since the Dark Knight trilogy.

The Easter eggs are glorious.

Damon Lindelof and the writers pulled off what Benioff and Weiss couldn't in the last two seasons of GoT.

Regina King, Jean Smart, Hong Chau, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr and Jeremy Irons are sublime.

Trent Reznor's soundtrack should be injected directly into your veins.



Each episode was better than the last... They're an hour long and I don't think I breathed during the last three...

... It's my best show of 2019, and it's not even close.

Everyone figured this was foreshadowing episode seven... They've corrected course and are flying right now 'tho.
