Water and lights deposit

Apparantly when a house is transferred inyo your name, you need to pay a deposit to get meters etc in your own name.

They wanna charge me R2,400.00 deposit. Is that normal?!

Yes it is and you are luck it is that low. I had to pay R24 000 to get my water and lights laid on to my property when i build.

Ouch! I suppose I won't moan then But mine is laid on an established property ; it's just transfer

Yah they do that... why i just dont understand. Always felt like a darn scam to me.

The fees you mention are municipal fees and they vary from one municipality to another.
My water and electricity connection fees were about R600 IIRC (Tshwane).

Mine was about R300. Tshwane.
