water cooling

Was surprised to find out that the Xbox360 CPU is water cooled.

The water cooled term is being used loosely; actually it is a heat sink constructed of a copper base, aluminum stamped fins and copper heat pipe. The heat pipe contains water and a vacuum is pulled on the pipe prior to sealing.

Water under a vacuum boils at a lower temperature than at atmospheric pressure, so when the water boils and becomes steam, the steam rises and moves the heat higher into the fins where the air flow from the fans can extract the heat more efficiently. Once the steam is cooled it condenses and flows back down the pipe as water to the copper base of the heat sink, which is attached to the processor to continue the condensing and cooling processes cycle.

yea no aircon

and the sun shines directly through the huge window even with the blinds closed to still cooks

how much would you say a decent air con is?

i dont have 4-8k for an aircon

i dont mind the heat just my overclocked intel core 2 is not very happy

would watercooling bring it down from the 50 degrees its sitting at now?

You can get nice ones for under R3000 if you go to private guys and get less known brands. They are not always less reliable. Make sure the folks you use have loads of parts on site and you should be sorted.

Invest.

Those temperatures are right for an overclocked Quad Core. :)
Esp in this heat I'm surprised why some people's computers haven't killed themselves...

My room temp is 31'C and the CPU idles at 45'C :(
I lost so much of my clocks due to this heat over the last 3month.. :/

Even my motherboard is having hard time.

I know what you mean about this heat..
When its hot my room temp gets extremely hot, even with all the cooling in my case its just not enough, its merely blowing hot air around. As soon as i try play any recent game, artifacts & then BSOD :(

Question: If i buy a big desktop fan, and put it next to my open case blowing inwards, will it work?

well i decided to get a 12" box fan, not too big and doesnt look bad either. My Nvidiot 7900Gt temp dropped from 55 degrees to 46' not bad..
and was cheap. 150 bucks

the trick is not how much cooling you have, its about how effective it is in terms of placement

also try opening the side of your case releases alot of pressure

try to get a fan sucking out the hot air, because having a fan blowing in air can create a hot box because your cpu north bridge and vga card are normally rather close, so it creates a hot air cloud which the inside fans suck in

i got my aquagate mini will tell you guys how it workx when i put it in which should tnite or sat morning

work really well

this time last time last my cpu was hitting 47

right now its sitting at 35/36

amazing

scart i searched for nearly a full day for this, the supplier that brings in them only has the aquagate not the mini

oke i am on a modding mission ..

i have a Thermaltake big water system ...
my plan is to get a peltier ... and add an extra cpu water block on the system and have the sub-zero side of the peltier mounted on it ..... i am just worried about condensation inside the pc case

From what I understand if you install it correctly, ie. with the sticky black stuff you get to isolate the CPU and stop any condensation from escaping, you should be fine.

I just did my first water cooling and I had a few hitches, I don't even want to think about going peltier.

@Killa: Dude so what did you get the mini or the full on Aquagate?

hehe oke well the peltier will be used to cool the Water/Antifreeze in my liquid cooled system. a few radiators will release some cool air into the case reducing the ambient temp in the case and the remainder will be circulated into the waterblock for cpu cooling ......

aquagate mini r120

cpu sitting at 26 this morning sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet but i turn the fan down and its silent in my office and my cpu is at 28 now hahaha

man this is so freakin awesome :)

Wow, man that 965 chipset works well.

Luckily it looks like my system is running alot smoother now with the new BIOS. Maybe with newer BIOS I'll be able to hit 3.6. But I think my RAM is holding me back now.

yea pity rectron didnt those tranend sticks in stock

scart email some pics of the inside of your box and your motherboard settings take a photo or whateva cause i know to get my cpu clocked to where it is i had to set my pci-e bus to 100 or it wouldnt boot

remember heat is your biggest enemy when it comes to overclocking

I'm a try that and attach a peltier to my radiator and see how that will help decrease temps. Right now I'm making a mini freezer mod to house my Radiator which should bring my temps down to the 20'C and late teens if all goes right...
Just have to seal properly

cool ....

is your plan open source ?? :D
