Yesterday our geyser pipe burst. The PC and laptop were under about 2 inches of water. Left them to dry for 24 hours and they seem to be working fine. But what problems can I expect in future? Should I claim from insurance even though the stuff is working a the moment?

:)

Pour a bucket of water over it and claim :D
Or through it in the bath...
Just a thought :p

take them in and claim, your warranties if any are gone now since the liquid stickers that detect hydration will have changed color by now. your insurance will prob need you to take them a repair facility to "confirm" they have liquid in them though.

PS - Pc prob wont have liquid stickers on it, so they'll have to take u on word for that one.

Ahh... insurance fraud. Making criminals out of decent people for decades...

Aggg please mr high and mighty the insurance companies try screw us at every corner.

Screw em back.

Insurance is simple you try screw them they try screw you. That is how it works.

Bucket idea is legend :D

The insurance companies base their premiums on historical claims. For every person that claims fraudulently (and this is not aimed at you OP) MY premiums increase!

It is a rather sad reflection on South African society's morals that views that oppose fraudulent behaviour are actually shot down and criticised...

Rubbish lance, i am sure tons of people have been burnt by insurances trying to rip them off when they make a valid claim.

You really think your premiums go up because other people claim? That is just another BS they feed you so they can charge you more.

Like believing gaming will turn your kid into a killing machine, believing that insurance companies put premiums up for fraud is just ridiculous.

Your ignorance never fails to astound me!

makes me wonder how many people are stealing from SARS since theyre "screwing us over" too...

i dont think it justifies theft. you cant point a finger at someone if they're your example u follow.

No the sars are not screwing us, they are charing and doing what they set out to.

You telling me you guys have never been in a car accident and your insurance refused to pay or refuse to pay for this and that or they try their hardest to not pay for stuff?

I am not worried about the premiums, i hate insurance companies for trying to get off by replacing and fixing as little as possible.

Lance i am glad when your insurance goes up you do not go tell them you are going somewhere else, then you will keep your premiums, you just say OK no problem put them up must be those guys trying to screw you guys :D.

Shame if you do not get new quotes every year then you my friend are the ignorant one here. The best is car is getting a letter saying your car insurance is going up some ignorant people will be like ok but i phone around get a cheaper place and tell hollard if they go up i move. They never go up :D, infact i got a reduction in my car insurance this last month.

No, on the two occasions in almost 20 years that I have needed to claim I have been paid! Perhaps it has something to do with me being honest with my insurance company.

It would also be interesting to find out some specifics about those "this and that" that resulted in claims not being paid. Perhaps something illegal like smooth tires on your vehicle? Or a badly done home job on a geyser which resulted in the insurance not being valid? All these things are laid out in policy documents if requested and read.

Killa again you clearly miss the point. Insurance companies do NOT thumb suck premiums. They base it on actuarial calculations which look at the probability of claims. It should be obvious that this would include claims histories for the vehicle/component/area. The fact that you even feel the need to argue this proves my previous point!

Hmmm... isn't this an interesting little paragraph in an article about ways to decrease your insurance premiums....

Polygraph testing is starting to become a feature of insurance policies. Here you accept that you may be asked to do a polygraph test after you submit a claim. In return, you can get around a 25% to 40% discount on your premiums.

Bill Meier of Denham Tower Underwriting Agents says they offer clients a 25% discount on policies with a polygraph clause.

Last year, he says, the company wrote R7-million in premiums with more than 1 000 clients coming on board. He says of the five people sent for a polygraph test last year, two failed, in which case they weren't paid out.

Now I wonder why they would do that if fraud actually has no effect on the premiums paid? Do you know the answer Killa?

I'm not asking about fraud, go start your own thread. All I want to know is if the stuff is working now after the water damage, will it still be working this time next year?

P.S. Alex Forbes is awesome.

Apologies, you did not ask about fraud but the first response (and others thereafter) suggested it. Some then went on to condone it!

Well dude if the stuff is working it will work, if your mobo goes 3 months from now was it the water or just a failure?

Just make sure the insurance company knows your pc stuff was in water so if something does happen you have a leg to stand on.
