*no this is not a thread about the relevancy of filtering your tap water

ok so i want get myself something to filter my tap water with to remove the heavy metals and chlorine. just not sure which one of the many to get since i don't want for example spend say 1k on the actual thing and it's filters costs R600 per shot.

any suggestions please on which ones are great and what are not :)

The only real option is to get a reverse osmosis system but these are pricey at 3K upwards. The rest are all carbon based filters which are not effective on their own removing heavy metal contaminants. You still need to change the membrame on the RO systems every year due to bacteria build-up; Vendors will say three years and your system needs an annual servicing running around R1k all parts included (carbon filters, membrane, etc). Your other costs are mineral supplementation as the RO water is completely stripped.

ok, i was under the impression that charcoal based filtering systems helped with the heavy metals.
