Water Pump/Groove Joint Pliers

Looking for some help from the knowledgeable folks at MyBB.

I am in need of a pair of water pump pliers (also called groove joint pliers, tongue and groove pliers or slip joint pliers) that has a jaw capacity of up to 140mm. It would seem that the required size of pliers would be 500mm or greater, however I am not finding a local supplier with something that big. Max I can find is 400mm at Builders, and that would appear to have a max jaw size between 90mm and 110mm. Maybe Google is also not being my friend today.

I can find them internationaly - plenty to choose from, but don't want to go through so much hassle for this one item.

Anyone know of where I could search further for this? I'm in the Northcliff/Fairlands (Jhbg) area.

A PVC lock and joining rings on my pool filter which have a diameter of 135mm (approx)

Ok, I don't think you need a pair of pliers that big as you only need the end of the jaws to get to the outside middle(if that makes sense?) of the nut.
However I usually use my oil filter wrench for those, they are usually not very tight and the strap grabs the nut without damaging it.
A big pair pliers like that will cost a bomb!

It looks like Adendorff may have you covered (even in light(er) weight too). Maybe this Crescent RT216CV opens up widely enough? (But, unless you're related to Rockefeller, you may not wanto buy from this Toolshop!)

^This^, or those strap thingies you use to open canned fruit bottles - similar design.
Edit: apparently called a rubber strap wrench.

Jaw capacity would only be between 85mm and 110mm based on what I have found for the 406mm length.

A good idea - I don't have such, but will investigate.

This will be perfect, but it's from the UK (and a bit pricey).

I tried one of those, but it did not budge (okay, it's a jar opener and likely does not have the leverage for the job). The oill filter idea sounds good.

Very cheap (R70-80) at any midas or motor parts place, you can always put a pipe or something over it for more power(being careful of course).

They were way overtight

One of my pet hates!! Why people why!! Its plastic! a little over hand tight is all that's needed.
The other thing is half a tube of silicone plastered over everything.
