WATER SUPPLY UPDATE – MULTIPLE AREAS
Friday, 23 January 2026
As a direct result of heavy winds, which have affected the electricity supply to most water supply installations across the metro, there are widespread water outages.
Water teams are working closely with the Electricity Directorate to speed up recovery. A further update will be issued later this morning.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly while the system remains under pressure.
Areas Currently Affected:
Chelsea Zone (including high-lying areas):
Baywest, Rowallan Park, Sherwood, Lorraine, Ben Kamma, Beverley Grove,
Theescombe / Lake Farm / Colleen Glen, Hunters Retreat, Kabega Park,
Morningside, Linton Grange, Framesby, Malabar, Sunridge Park,
Westering, Cotswold, Fernglen,
Barcelona, Parsonsvlei, Parsons Ridge
Motherwell:
Higher-lying areas of Motherwell may be affected by midday if supply is not restored before then.
Chatty / Despatch Tower / Rosedale / Loerie Bulk System:
Joe Slovo West, Khayamnandi (higher-lying areas),
Chatty 11 & 12 (Qunu, Marikana, Jachtvlakte),
Reservoir Hills, Rosedale, Mountain View, Moeggessukel
Gelvandale Areas:
Parts of Helenvale, Lower Gelvandale, Algoa Park, Zwide,
Soweto on Sea, Veeplaas, KwaZakhele, Missionvale
Kwanobuhle & Surrounds:
Kwanobuhle Areas 8, 9, 10 & 11,
Winnie, Kingston

Thornhill, Van Stadens Gorge, Rooihoogte, Scheepershoogte,

Large parts of Nelson Mandela Bay were plunged into darkness on Thursday afternoon due to a power outage caused by vandalism and severe weather.
That led to the collapse of the Chatty–Bloemendal and Chatty–Rowallan Park 132kV power line towers.
Load reduction measures will be implemented where necessary.

Power towers collapse due to severe weather, vandalism in Nelson Mandela Bay
Large areas of Nelson Mandela Bay experienced a power outage due to the collapse of 132kV power line towers affected by severe weather and vandalism.
