This line of thought spawned from my previous thread in which I discussed an upgrade of my current PC. I want to overclock my Core 2 Duo E6300 (preferably to around 3.0Ghz per core) and have been pondering over the various ways of doing this. This caused me to stumble on the idea of watercooling.

What I want to know is whether watercooling would be worth it? What is the best system to go for (I've a budget of R1500 total for the cooling system).

I have been looking at the Gigabyte 3D Galaxy II which sells for just over R1200. Anyone had any experience with this cooling system? Is there something better out there? Would it be better for me to buy each component separately or buy a full kit?

I also have been keeping a eye out for watercooling. And out of all the reviews on web-pages the 3d galaxy watercooling looks like the best bet.
Even the pc format mag I read awhile ago agreed on the 3d galaxy watercooling is the best.
All the other watercooling system is to expensive or is to noisy or just doesn't do the job:(
Well i could be wrong. But thats what i have read.

Thanks for the input, I have been reading up a bit on the 3d galaxy and it does seem like the way to go...

lol. I'd rather have that one fan than some monstrous Zalman cooler sitting on my CPU/GFX card/RAM

DangerDen watercooling parts for the extreme overclockers

The Gigabyte Galaxy is a very nice water cooling kit, and it has a lot of potential for modding and improving.

I think I might just go for the galaxy then and then maybe get an addon cooling block for my 8800GTS...

The other question is in terms of mobility. How much heavier will it make my case and will I be confined to one place (ie. no car trips to LANs with my case lying on its side)?

Good question.. am also not sure about the portability of it.

lol. I reckon stupidity like that is a a tax upon itself...

Right now it looks like I am gonna go with the liquid cooling kit sold by Gigabyte - the 3d Galaxy II (you can find a link in the original post). I have been reading reviews on it and it seems like it will be the best start out setup for a liquid cooling noob such as myself.

What the reviews don't tell me, however, is how mobile the PC will be once the cooling is installed. Will it still be possible to move around to the occasional LAN? Does anyone know the answer.

Also, I am not sure whether this unit will actually work in my case as I have quite a strange one. I have the Aerocool ZeroDegree which is actually built upside down. That is, the PSU is mounted at the bottom and the motherboard is mounted upside down on the left side of the case (basically take your case and turn in upside down and you will have an idea of what my case looks like right way up :P ). So I need to know if I will be able to mount the radiator block upside down as well (as the I/O card slots where the tubes will come out of the case will be above the radiator, rather than below it as it would be in a standard case.)
