Slacktivism
Slacktivism is the search for the ultimate feel-good that derives from having come to society's rescue without actually getting one's hands dirty, volunteering any of one's time, or opening one's wallet. It's slacktivism that prompts us to forward appeals for business cards on behalf of a dying child intent upon having his name recorded in the Guinness World Book of Records or exhortations to others to continue circulating a particular e-mail because some big company has supposedly promised that every forward will generate monies for the care of a languishing tot. Likewise, it's slacktivism that prompts us to want to join a boycott of designated gas companies or eschew buying gasoline on a particular day rather than reduce our personal consumption of fossil fuels by driving less and taking the bus more often. Slacktivism comes in many forms, but its defining characteristic is its central theme of doing good with little or no effort on the part of the person inspired to participate, through the mechanisms of forwarding, exhorting, collecting, or e-signing.

So as a counter propose everyone exceed their 3gb limit on purpose on the 28th of a given month. It would mean no connectivity for the last two days, but no pain no gain. Then you can dispute Telkom's argument that 80 odd percent of their customers dont exceed the cap.
Actively work hard at using your land line as little as possible. Forcing Telkom's revenue on land lines down. Use cell phones instead. And again there would be a cost to this action and once again, no pain no gain.
Switch from Vodacom to MTN as a matter of course. And again there would be a cost to this action and once again, no pain no gain.
Actively make as many people as you meet aware of the actions of Telkom and the resistance against them ie MyAdsl.co.za . No cost involved in this one only passion.
Cancel all the add-on services that Telkom offers. Imagine Telkom have no customers who have Call-answer. Only have the services that reduce your cost at Telkom like Infinite call Which btw I think is about the only one. Dont worry about itemized billing. If you ever have a dispute Telkom have to produce an itemised bill for you and it is only a once off fee.
Bottom line, not using Telkom's lines for a day is going to do nothing in the long run as they know you will be back tomorrow. However if you actively work to reduce money you spend at Telkom that is a permanent loss to them which is going to show in reduction in turnover EVERY month. That is real action. Make it as clear as daylight to them that the first day the SNO opens its doors you are moving.
