Worth anything?

Friend sid I should make an offer.

What do these go for new?

Oh geez ...

These things seriously devalue ;)

Thanks!

Nah I just feel if you buying something second hand you shouldn't pay more than 85% of the current going price.. Unless It's literally brand new or unopened...

Instead os selling then - is it possible to simply buy another and get an external that holds 2 x hard drives ?

Sold mine almost 5 months ago for R500 ea with 1 year warranty left. At this point I personally wouldn't pay more than R400 ea for one. Well depends new I'd pay R500 for a new one with 1 year warranty I'd pay R400.

Also depends if it is a advanced format drive? If yes subtract R100 from the price (IE. R400 new, R300 old). Reason: Advanced format only works acceptable in Windows 7/Vista/2008 R2. Doesn't work for RAID (not even in Windows 7) or any other operating system. Yes you can align the partitions but performance is still significantly less than non advanced format drives. Let me clarify, with unaligned partitions you get 4-8mb/s write speed (USB flash drives are faster than that FFS), with aligned partitions you get about 30mb/s write speed in Linux. Compare that to normal drives 100-150mb/s write speed easily and you'll understand the problem. Only in Windows do you get the normal 100mb/s write speeds.

Yes, you get externals that hold more than one drive, Vantec has one.

You can buy Samsung Spinpoint drives for R450 from Esquire (maybe even less)

You can also get a dock and just slot it in and out. New ones have USB3 connectors.
Useful if you have more than one drive (they plug 'n play)
