Hi all. Lately my media player started acting up when playing certain mkv files. When trying to play a mkv file it doest play , just shows a blank screen . I can exit but then nothing else plays . I just get the blue ring trying to read. A hard boot and all is well again ( except playing the offending file offcourse)
Some searching suggests it has to do with a header compression issue when converting . I cant find a fix for it though and looks like WD stopped supporting this product ( latest firmware is 2 yrs old ) .
Anybody had this issue or have a fix pls.

Anything yet??

Hi Corbin

I got the same issue  ...In my case: mkv file played for a while then all of sudden nothing played. I haven't tried hard booting it yet though (that said, worth a try). I've tried looking into updating (dam menu option to update {after reading the doc} doesn't even appear). Also, the firmware version on the site matches the one I have on my device ...so :( If you have a solution for this, please let me know ...thanks

Hi. You out of luck . what ive read is that MKV utils used to convert, are now defaulted with header compression. This was not built into these media players .Apparently its an easy fix for WD but they not supporting Gen 2 players anymore therefore no firmware upgrade. What ive done is download mkvmerge and remux the file using "no header compression" option. mkv files plays fine after that. I found the fix on WDforums. I'll try and find the link when I have a chance otherwise just google.
It takes about 10 mins to remux 5GB file and also note that it creates a second file about double the size of the original . But it worked for me.

awesomeness

Hi Corbin
