WD warranty issue

I was given a WD Ext 2.5" 1TB drive which has gone belly up ( the usual not mounting & repetitive clicking sound)
Unfortunately, the person who gave it to me died recently so i have no way of knowing where it came from.
It is under warranty according to the WD website (until mid 2013).

However its serial number does not match that of any distributor i have contacted, these include:
rectron
frontosa
pinnacle
drive control
CSSI

Any ideas as how to handle this?

WD would be 99% chance from Drive Control Corporation, they are the official distributors for WD in SA. Give them a call with the serial# and they will tell you if it's one of theirs.

Then you are gonna have to phone around.

Alternatively fire off a mail to WD and ask them who they supplied the drive to.
