We have a "Spineless" government!

Just a thought, but Somalia is still struggling with hunger.. So withhold any food supplies until pirates stop their business, and watch how quickly the local populace turns on them..

Where's the like button?

The pirates are massively popular with the local populace, as they produce almost all income, and share it with the rest of the populace.
To the locals, they are far better than "food aid"

I know you are joking but in case someone takes it seriously: you can't withhold vital resources from hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in the hope that they will start attacking their own criminals. Also crime increases with poverty, so with the desperation more people could just turn into pirates.

Well, I am having trouble seeing how it is awesome to have money when you have to chew your own arm for nourishment..

True. Still wish you could though. And I think it'll work like within a week..

RE. We have a "Spineless" government!

I don't think it's so much a spineless government.

The ANC, as a party and a government, have a lot more in common with the pirates in terms of morals, attitudes and mentality than they they do to any civilized society.

The Government is a bunch of spineless idiots. They throw parties of 100s of millions of rands but cannot pay to get someone's family members back!! What a pathetic bunch of losers!! This is why they will never get my vote, they only worry about themselves and how they can make more money. CLOWNS!!!

If the political party you'd vote for would pay ransoms for hostages being released then they aren't better. In fact they're worse, it's like giving a glue-sniffing kid money at the robots. You're just enabling the problem.

We all know they are spineless. No government pays in hostage situations.

No one is saying pay it, we are saying send in special forces and get our people back

Ransom demand for SA couple soars

http://mg.co.za/article/2012-03-02-ransom-demand-for-sa-couple-soars

In the latest negotiation between Gift of the Givers and the couple's captors on Monday evening, the ransom was again increased, from $800000 to $1.5-million, said Sooliman. He said the kidnappers alleged that they had been offered $1.5-million by a third party. They also mentioned that they needed more money, because they had to share the spoils among several business "partners".

So much for negotiating with these scumbags!

Or the son of a wealthy Nigerian businessman wanting an offshore account to transfer funds into.

Could be... but... there are much more high profile hostages in Somalia... so why pick two lowly South Africans to be the collateral?

Media attention? What other high profile hostages are there?
