Having used iburst for 18 months and having experienced a steady decrease in speed I ordered adsl.Hearing nothing from Telkom I spent a great amount of money sorting out my iburst connection and now I have adsl 512 plus iburst.Adsl is more stable and delivers slightly better speeds.I am now reliably informed that iburst will insall a new base station less than 300 metres (as the crow flies) from where I live within the next month or so.One connection must go will not pay for both.Latest news from iburst does not include forward planning news but retrospective news.Ed Hall waits for a thread to be discussed for far to long before replying or attempting to solve the problem(shades of Telkom now my wireless gone).I am informed that the waiting applications to be installed for adsl in the area where I live amount to approximately 3200.If this is fact iburst has lost out on a huge number off possible customers due to no forward planning with dates been given on website.I live in a lightning area which destroys telkom connections and yet ibursts coverage map still shows light green reception in the area I live in.Wake up iburst before its to late.

It has gone way beyond the time when Iburst needed to explain to its users where they are taking the service i.r.o of packages, bandwidth costs, speeds, etc.

It is very hard to remain loyal in an information vacuum.

Right now, ADSL is where it is all happening.

Long time Ibursters like me want to see a value for money proposition from Iburst ASAP.

Ja, I agree. But Ed Hall did say they are planning a change and we can expect to see some product changes soon, but it really has to happen now.

Its not to hard to decide on something, they know exactly what we want, and what they can give probably.

Its been almost 2 years now with the exact same price, service and caps. While ADSL has dropped access charge three time, IS dropped the whoslesale price a while ago they also offered big local caps and the speed increased for free up to 4mb now.
Im just worried Ibursts new offering will be very lame compared to this. They might just increase the speed to 2mb and leave everything else how it is, or drop the price by R100.

There's no point in increasing the speed with the tiny caps we have, I'd rather they double the cap and remove those other dumb restrictions they put in place.
Also they could increase the capped speed to 128kbps then just maybe I'll stay with iBurst, as it is right now I'm thinking very hard about changing over to ADSL even though I have a good iburst connection.

Its a sad trend, I have been with iBurst since prelaunch and am making the miff trek back to telscum.

Ja, well thats what I was impyling.

hmm.. with your speeds id be surprised why you really want to move.. I guess ADSL 4mb and a bit higher caps are nice, but that will be alot more than Iburst you know.

The local access on IS and gaming on ADSL is what would pull me, as well as more stability.
But hten again, IS is similar to Iburst, and they have the really good prices.

Maybe but I can always go back at month to month if ADSL sucks.

To be honest I'm sick of the typical SA attitude that wbs has as a business as if we owe them something.
We pay their salaries and when we want answers we have to beg for it.

I cannot agree more, MrH!

Why is it so difficult for iBurst to let us know what's happening? I also joined more than a year ago, have been a loyal customer, but I'm losing patience.

If anyone from iBurst is reading this - WAKE UP!

I am also quickly losing patience with iBursts lack of response.

ADSL is looking more appealing now and I never throught I would say that. When the Xbox 360 is released I might have to move to ADSL if iBurst don't start talking.

Don't you think its a bit unfair to compare a wireless product and a wired product in terms of stability and speed?

Also, ADSL has gone down in price but it was already too high in the beginning. Plus, AFAIK, in most countries, wireless broadband is always more expensive than the wired broadband - its just that in our country, because of Telkom high ADSL prices, we don't see the large price difference between the 2.

But I take the point that because wholesale prices have decreased somewhat, that we should be paying less for iBurst.

Agreed but Iburst's business model is too compete with ADSL.

Iburst must decide to compete or become a niche player for people who need mobility etc much like you describe in other countries.

I would like too see:
1) drop in price for the entry level 1GB package.
2) Increase in cap from 3gb - 5gb and other larger packages similarly.
3) Drop Shaping.

This may put a margin squeeze initially but with the prospect of cheaper international access once sno and eassy come on stream the increased market share will soon make the numbers again.

I hope IBurst changes its offerings soon. If Telkom was a bit more efficient with their ADSL rollout I would have probably looked much closer at them when looking for broadband.

Anyway, I am holding thumbs for an IBurst improvement...

True! calculate the price/unit. 700 for 3gig. so it's R233.33 for 1 gig (for me) an increase to 4gig cap would be R175 and at 5gig it would be R140. Lowering the cost to 600 would be R200 and at R500 it would be R167.

I would like a gig cap increase. the increase in speed to 2mb is not that high on my list. at 1mb it's good enough for me (and my connection sucks). faster speeds i would just reach my cap quicker. i don't like that too much.

i have a limit, so i can't pay more, otherwise i would be on the 6gig package. therefore a gig increase would be nice. or lowering the price by 200 would make me considering going to a higher cap....mmmmm

i hope they do one of the above...

BUT, what bothers me is that Ed doesn't give a f--- about all the ppl saying they're leaving. Doesn't he care about his customer base saying they're leaving...he can at least post: "guys, hold on, we're going to publish the new pricing system at the 15 Sept." nope, nothing....

On your monthly 3gb limit you can max out your Iburst for all of 6 hours 40 minutes, which is less than 1% of a month! Doubling the speed to 2mb would provide half the usage. Far better to increase caps than to increase the speed. There is some threshold when increased speeds would become preferable to increased caps, but that point is still far, far away.

Wel you have to think about the uncapped access too..

But also, with such small caps it is obviosly not the point to let you max out your connection at all.

The speed is obviously intended to get things done quickly, and I must say you need speeds on a servcie where speed isnt guarenteed, atleast with 2mb it shouldnt be able to slow down too much for anyone, even people with not so great connections would get okay speeds.
But it obviously isnt enough to keep most of us happy...

It does not follow that the customers with crappy speeds now will benefit from a speed increase, if their connections are crappy and way below the max speed we have now what makes you think their speeds will get any better if wbs increase the speed to 2mbps?
Anyway as already said rather increase the cap as 1mbps is quite fast enough for the bandwidth limitations we have in sa.

Maybe increase the speed for the larger packages if needed but as already pointed out it is not needed on a 3GB package.

It actually makes me feel sick when I talk to my friends in the US and UK as they can hardly believe what we pay for our internet service in sa compared to what they pay and what they get for their money.

I'm seeing 3 sides here, 1 team wants Higher speeds and a little higher cap (users with a low bandwidth requirement), 1 team wants Much bigger caps and a higher 'after cap' speed (obviously high bandwidth users) and then the people that say they are very happy with the service as is (no comment) and everybody wants lower prices...(I beg you to disagree).

I might be a little of all three (preferably team 2), but one thing is for sure, if something don't happen soon, you'll shortly see a post in the "2nd hand modem" thread!

Guys, certain of you have missed the point of this thread. It is not about speed, caps or bandwith but about keeping Iburst users upto date on Ibursts webste if they have a forward plannning module and what it consists of.Proactiveness is what is required from I burst.I refer to the the threads posted by Billion tech (regarding routers).I would never have approached telkom if I knew that a Tower was to be erected in my backyard.I dont mind paying for service but please give it to long standing Iburst users who have supported Iburst through thick and thin.Suddenly a new tower is erected in CT see other threads. Why no prior Information? And again Ed Hall is silent.I am amazed and very dissapointed as I value service and will pay for it.

Wel the tower in CPT isnt really live yet, it will be on thier site and under covergae updates when it is.

Prior information however would be nice, but you dont get that from any other provider either. I guess its not much of an excuse.

Iburst in this country will end up exactly the same as my wireless. The offerings from Vodacom,Mtn,Cell C and Virgin will eventually kill their mobile portability albeit it will take time. Operating from an Utd and with proactiveness might save the company.Telkom with its huge capital backing and the Sno(when it arrives) will undercut Ibursts profits if they do not become proactive.I would raeher have Iburst than Telkom as my supplier but where does one draw the line.My two connections are costing approximately R1300.00 pm and I dont even game on line.
