Why do we still have to wait anther 6 months to see what the SNO is going to offer? ... We need it now ...

At least we need to see a Press Conference with ideas from them .. we are kept in the dark ... we need promises followed by actions ...

So journalists do your job now .. never mind if its Christmas time

This ADSL is getting out of hand ... everyday there is something else new ... why must I be told what I can do and what I cant do with what I purchase? .. Who the hell allowed them to go this far? .... all of us?

It is coming. Needing it now is not going to change anything

Agreed. And it is still going to work in our favour - gives them another 6 months to p1ss off even more people = more people will switch.

Has there been any threads regarding the SNO's gameplan? Ie. How exactly the going to offer something new without using Telkom's infrastructure?

Are you from Telkom? Because I'm sure they'd LOVE to see the SNO's gameplan 6 months ahead of when it actually comes into effect...

There's a good reason they're not telling us what their plans are. We've all learned not to trust Telkom.

I don't want to be pessimistic, (hell, with Telkom ruining our economy I'm depressed enough!) but I don't think the SNO will make any difference to telecoms in South Africa.

Remember when MTN launched, everyone was saying that Vodacom will drop their prices - it never happened. Instead, MTN & Vodacom got together and agreed on what prices will be.

Same will happen with the SNO - 20% will be owned by an Indian company, who would want to show a profit ASAP and get a return on their investment. If the men in black from Telkom pay them a visit and offer to help, they will go for it.

The SNO will basically give you an option to 'think' you're free of Telkom.....

And with the way I/ECASA is going, they will have little or no teeth to challenge the Duopoly.

But let’s not be pessimistic.
I think the challenge will be on how innovative the SNO will be and how many new products they can bring to the market place.

I guees the SNO is better than nothing. Hopefully things will improve at least a little. Like I've said many times before.. I'll probably be an old man with a stick by the time these clowns in the telecomunications sector can provide what is currently being provided in Europe and America.

It will NOT be Telkom, which in my view will be an enormous improvement.

Die, Telkom, die.

Guys guys guys, you keep getting it all wrong.
You do not need Telkom, SNO, Sentech etc...
My advice is DO NOT get ADSL, and DO NOT get any form of Wireless Internet.
Diginet lines too are a bad choice and not advisable in this day and age.
As we move in our everstriding path of technology towards perfection in the form of mass media connection, the future is becoming more and more clear to which direction to take.
So make your choice now and make it wisely.
As an individual who works with this ever expanding technology, may it be past, present or future... my advice to you and everyone reading this, is to get yourself a Pigeon.
Pigeons are the future and will give you that guarenteed reliable, friendly, no bullsh*t connection that you all dream of today.
So dont despair, choose wisely, and choose now - get a Pigeon :)

Just some other ****, but you can use that as fertilizer! :D

A pigeon would be certainly cheaper to run than Telkom ADSL. :D

Not meant as derailment, but what else can you do but try to keep the humour flowing? Otherwise we would all start to cry! :(

Rome was not built in a day, but it did take significantly less time to burn it to the ground.

I hope they are getting their ducks in a row, but wait ......... have they not been sitting on their thumbs for a few years already ?

Viewed from their current approach they will not have a "bang" effect on the market. More of a corporate skulker.

Personally ; I am donating my body to the NSA to get lo-jacked, at least I will have an allways on connection !

Sno Sno

I highly doubt the SNO will do anything for broadband in south africa. As mentioned in an earlier post, it was the same deal with the cellular operators, they all kept their prices the same. And with the SNO (Aka Telkom Branch Extension 2) atleast now u get to choose who gives it to you up the bum.

The only thing that may alleviate the problem a little is ICASA's new draft regulation - but who knows when or if they will ever implement it. They move SO SLOW its ridiculous. The hearing was in April (If i remember correct), then they take 8 months to write a draft! Now they want to wait another few months for "comments" and then they will prolly take another few months to "consider the comments" and then ofcourse implementing will be difficult so that will take another few months (this will be after some delibiration with telkom ofcourse)

I dont see anything really changing for atleast a year or two, and even then it will be an extremely slow change! The draft only states 10 gig intl and unrestricted local access (which is great) but still a JOKE compared to international broadband standards.

Why are our journalists not interested in releasing information about the board of directors of the SNO?

Would it not be interesting to see who they are?

Journalists and lawyers in this (3rd world country according to a 3rd class citizen by the name of Rikush1t) country have a lot to learn.

They follow the example given by "The Sleeping Beauty" and fall asleep on their a$$es.
