Johannesburg – Supporting Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane to become South Africa’s Public Protector was a terrible mistake, EFF leader Julius Malema has said.

"We just took a puppet from Gupta’s kitchen and said let’s give her a chance," he explained during a media conference on Monday

The EFF threw its weight behind Mkhwebane during a parliamentary process to replace former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela in 2016. It opted to ignore claims from some, including those from the DA, that Mkhwebane was a spy. The EFF, however, did say it would take her appointment on review if it felt she was not in the position for the right reasons.

During a media briefing at the EFF’s headquarters on Monday, Malema shook his head as he expressed his disappointment and lack of confidence in Mkhwebane’s ability to fulfil her role.

"We are looking at some way of rescuing that office," said Malema. He admitted that the EFF had already started looking at ways to have Mkwehbane removed.

His comments also come amidst claims that Mkhwebane tampered with a report into Absa bank, over a complaint that it benefited from an apartheid-era bail out.

Political parties also questioned Mkhwebane’s decision not to oppose an application by President Jacob Zuma and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des Van Rooyen in October 2016 to obtain an interdict against the Madonsela's State of Capture report.

"We must stop calling her the public protector and start calling her a state protector," Malema said.

Well at least they admit they were wrong. More than can be said for most other politicians.
 
You go Juliaaas - and while you are at it look at ways of having Zuma removed as well ..

True, but hopefully they will now think twice when being warned, rather than jump to theories of conspiracy against black people...
 
Some might call this spilled milk. What remedies are available except to wait out the next 6+ years.
 
Juju this is a clear demonstration that you guys are naive and far from fit to govern, your bed mates the DA warned you against this puppet but your incredulously backed the ANC in recommending her!

This was Malema's cocky retort when warned against appointing Mkhwebane:

With that, he added: “she is going to be a public protector beyond Zuma’s term of office, so even if she was a Zuma candidate, he will not be there at some point. We are appointing her to a well-established institution, with rules and established practices and investigators. If she tries any shenanigans, the institution itself will expose her for who she is.”

Afriforum weighs in on Mkhwebane's first 100 days

Cape Town - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane spent most of her first 100 days in office distancing herself from her predecessor, Thuli Madonsela, Afriforum said in a report released on Monday.

The civil rights group said it found this incomprehensible. Its findings were contained in a short analysis based on media reports on Mkhwebane, who took office on October 17.

“Incomprehensible, because Advocate Madonsela not only managed to make her office known to and almost famous with the public, but she also found her way into most South Africans’ hearts and minds.”

In presenting herself as Madonsela’s opposite, or distancing herself from her, was creating unnecessary headwind before the start of the race, the lobby group said.

Although her plans to be more inclusive of people on the fringes of society were admirable, she should not forget that she served the public at large.

It was concerned about a report that she instructed staff to change the office television channel from eNCA to ANN7. The latter is owned by the Gupta family, subjects of one of the office's most controversial reports. But it felt this would be acceptable if she was merely trying to give her staff a broader range of opinions.

Her decision to ask for a police probe into the leaking of the audio recording of Madonsela’s interview with President Jacob Zuma could have been handled differently, Afriforum said.

“When accused of laying charges against her predecessor, she engaged in a semantic game, claiming that she had merely opened a case to investigate the leaking of audio tapes after having received complaints from the Presidency and the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly.”

It made her seem “somewhat out of touch with the public”. Afriforum believed that some, if not most people would regard the leaking of the tapes as a necessary evil in an attempt at transparency.

Afriforum said the true test would be her first investigation report.

He admits he was wrong supporting Zuma and now this. Maybe he needs to think before he climbs on his soap box and starts shouting down everyone who disagrees with him.

That is a considerably watered-down statement from Malema: instead of saying "state protector" he could have said something like "Gupta and Zuma protector".

It seems like Malema might be just a little bit scared of former SSA legal advisor Busisiwe (#bloodyAgent).

The repeating pattern suggest that maybe Mr Malema should leave the thinking to those with better luck in that department..

We'll... it's hard to trust anything the DA says, the DA and it's supporters here they have a tendency of accusing people of being a Zuma's puppets, by the way did they ever apologise to the Chief Justice Mogoeng?

It was hardly just the DA accusing him of being a puppet, even zuma expected him to be one.
 
Julius is not a great judge of character, is he?
Kill for Zuma etc...
