It would be nice to have a mode where you could charge the light without having it on. I had a few of these loadshedding lights and I would feel weird to have lights on all over the house just so they could charge up, normally I'm going around turning lights off to save power...
Maybe some manufacturer could jump on this, like a special charging only mode, maybe you click the light switch on, off, on within a certain time delay and then it will charge but the light is off, then you could come back later and switch it off and on again and the light would illuminate if you need it.

Hello Today s range has removable,replaceable 18650 batteries under a cover on the side .in a push that could be charged independently.they also 20 watt mains and 7 watt on battery .

most are fixed and once youve opened it and replaced the battery,soldered it in ,its just a waste of time they not made to be repaired ,ive found on the basic units the charging circuit funks out anyway .ive got 2 of the units with user replacement batteries standard 18650 chinese batteries we use them as portable lamps in confined spaces and they work well .on most of the better ones ,they come with a screw on base with a switch so you can hang it anywhere you like and turn it on or off .or you can just make your own portable base .

The mechanics involved in how the lights "sense" being on and off,and how they're likely used (might be a ceiling light) means other than charging removable battery options with a freestanding charger,or using some kind of remote to switch it from on to charging only(on) would be the only way

very good question ,you get led lumens ,plate lumens and actual lumens .which could easily differ by up to 75 %.
some actually are starting to state it now .

Came here to say the same thing. The Aurora lights are excellent. They run at set brightness levels for set periods before shutting off at exactly 6 hours, so as not to kill the battery by dropping the voltage too low. I've got these in most rooms in the houseWe have two of these Aurora (as seen in the link) lights, and compared to the others we have, they stay on the longest (>6hours) and also keep their brightness the longest. Excellent build quality.

Whats the best place to buy the batteries separately. The ones I've seen in hardware shops are more expensive than the bulb with the battery.

you will have to google it ,i dont buy them on the internet ,there are plenty different makes available ,18650 batteries for torches are around R35 each from the Cjina shops ,they also sometimes have the units with replacement batteries , look for the Hello Today units ,fairly good quality.
