We will not back down on cigarette ban: minister

We'll see.

Pride comes before the fall.
Pride in anything comes from achievement or accomplishment.
This mindless twat is just stupid.
They're all going to fall, alright.
If I were a politician in this country, I'd tread very carefully; the people are not known for their subtle methods when dealing with criminals.
Petrol is a little cheaper now and I foresee demand for used tyres increasing, along with a marked share price rise for the Lion Match company...

Well, Pauw thinks something more sinister is going on and they are doing it to favour Mazelotti (sp)

I believe in different values of "pride". This tool, like the other tools have "arrogant pride".
So they'll definitely feel it when karma kicks in.

Well... so go to court then. This is in any case where you all keep losing, all of the time.

Well, we are not Pauw, and many of us knew this long before Pauw's interview on radio. Of course the ban is to favour the ilicit tabaco industry. Government officials are making billions of Rands which does not have to go to the fiscus. They need the money to flee the country when the masses overthrows them. They have cleaned out the fiscus. I have no doubt they are all benefiting from this ban.

Over and above this, the government can't even feed the masses who are currently dying from poverty and hunger. They are losing R34m a day in tax income. Just imagine how many people they could have fed with that R34m each day. This is the reason why CR allowed the sales and why Tito too supports it. But, it will preven NDZ from earning an income from blackmarket sales. She has put herself ahead of the hungry masses to benefit herself and her family.

2000 people called for the ban, and you changed your mind on a hairpin
Close to 500 000 people said the opposite and you ignored them.

You can take your "democracy" and shove it.
They'll argue, perhaps correctly, that the 500k couldn't be bothered to submit via the appointed process so why should they bother considering submissions made online after the fact.

They would be arguing semantics, the people have spoken.

Because the president said that the ban will be lifted. As this came from the CIC, none of us saw the need to file any petitions for the lifting, then came that bitch and ovoerruled him.

"This approach was inconsistent with the president's announcement which had already been arrived at under the established criteria and BATSA was already preparing for the resumption of sales," read its statement.

"The minister cited 2 000 individual submissions received as a reason for this action.

"This was, in itself, bizarre and highly irregular, principally because she did not give the tobacco industry, retailers, tobacco consumers and others supporting the lifting of the ban, the opportunity to comment on the proposed reinstatement of the ban. This was grossly unfair and unlawful."

CR's a wet lappie..another useless African "President"...not even an apology for reneging on his promise.

D00s deluxe.

Im actually happy that my tax money will spent by the commies to try defend this in court. Will be very entertaining, and maybe something to watch on tv :D

Nah.
The real entertainment is going to be the looting and rioting.
Watching local muni councilors' homes on fire... Now THAT'S entertainment.

This court case (if it happens) will open up all our eyes to the absolute power given to the ministers right now. The court will likely just bend over backwards and tune that the ministers have the final say at this moment and this power they will never give up.

Our courts is a joke, even if in some way BAT win the legal case we will just have the government ignore judgement just like with every other court case.
