Hi All,

Received my STB last week. But having problems where I cannot lock onto most channels.

Here is the list of Channels I cannot view because of the signal strength.

SABC1 - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 95% then just drops to 0% then back to 95
SABC2 - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 95% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

SABC3 - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 95% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

ETV - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 94

TSWANA TV - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

Mindset Learn - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

Mindset Health - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

MyTV - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

Cape Town TV - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 94% then just drops to 0% then back to 95

SABC HD - Get signal for a couple of seconds at 98% the just drops to 0% then back to 98

TSWANA TV - Full Signal Strength and working fine
TBN - Full Signal Strength and working fine

I have a UHF Antenna on the roof pointing to Constantia and no matter what I do to stabilize the signal doesn't work. I live in Mitchells Plain and that's the only direction I can point the Antenna to because of a huge sand dune in the direction of Tygerberg.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem? And if so what did you do to stabilize the signal?

Thanks

You did? I didn't know they building them. So looks like one uses a normal TV aerial and not a dish. Where did you get it and how much? Is SABC broadcasting HD content?

I have a USB T2 tuner - when used in Muizenberg the signal was weak. Constantia
Brought it to the office in Milnerton and signal was way better - could watch without glitches - must be from Tygerberg.
So dunno if Constantia is weaker atm.

Thats with a indoor aerial 150mm stubby.

Bad news, bevan1. Signal's been intermittent today (not sure about this morning, but was unwatchable since this afternoon), that's why you're having problems. Getting our signal from the Tygerberg transmitter.

UPDATE:

So I emailed Sentech Cape Town and explained what problems I'm experiencing. The emailed me back to say that : DTT is now normal again". Went home and checked the signal and was still losing signal. Goes up to 100% and drops to 0. This morning when I got to work there was an email from Sentech stating I must contact them. Called the person and he explained to me that another person contacted them with the same problem, but this person is from the Northern Subs.

He said that he will call me tomorrow evening so that they can do some tests on their side and I must verify if the signal stabilizes.

So yeah, hope it works.

Sentech actually offering to help?! Good thing I was sitting down :D

I'm eager to know how this works out for you. My folks are still pottering on with SABC and on some of the channels their picture isn't stellar. Maybe DTT will be an improvement?

UPDATE

So last night I got a call from Sentech. They have confirmed that their is something wrong with the Tygerberg an d Constantia DTT transmitters. Someone from JHB will be flying down to assess the problem.

Thanks for the heads up :)

I am really amazed they got back in touch with you. I tried last year, not even an automated reply email, and the signal has been flaky for months. Really pleased they are finally looking into the problem.

Do any of you also think the audio quality is really bad? I hope they upgrade the audio streams to 128Kbit/s LC-AAC in the future.

Yes LeonG the audio quality is really poor, sub 128kbits quality I would say.
