There’s something really interesting I’d like to find out, and the reason behind it. I have a level 49 human combat rogue with rather good gear mostly going for agility and a balance between stamina and strength.

I duel wield Blade of the Wretched (35.7 dps 2.10 speed and a proc to send a shadow bolt corrupting and causing 90 dmg also increases attack power by 16) and Shadowblade (38.9 dps speed 1.40 with shadow bolt proc causing 110 – 140 dmg.) with an + 15 agility enchant.

What I’d like to know is I also have Talon of Valtros (only 16.8 dps speed is 2.00 with +5 agility and +2 spirit) also have the +15 agility enchant. This is obviously a crap weapon compared to shadowblade, yet when I place this in my off hand, my damage goes from 125-180 to 127-190 + / - Why is this??? Also If I place a dagger in my main hand and sword in offhand my damage drops substantially. Please can someone explain this to me?

Daggers - small and fast = a lot more attacks that do less damage
Swords - big(ish) and slow = slower attacks yet each hit does more damage

As combat its best to have a slower mainhand (2.7 speed sword would be best) and a fast offhand (Combat Potency (i think thats the talent) works better with a dagger). Reasoning, although it will take longer to hit with a 2.7 speed sword, your spamming SS as your energy dump, which doesnt affect your swing timer. Imo a Bloodrazor (think thats what its called - Epic 2.7 speed sword req lvl45) could give you more dps output due to its slower speed

Your actual hit will drop, but your dps will probably increase. With swords, or slower weps such as maces you will hit for more more dmg, but each hit will take longer to execute. If that makes sense? And with daggers you will hit more often, but for less.

EDIT: What he said ^^

Also, you're using a caster dagger. The +spirit does nothing for you.

Get a blacksmith to make you an ebon shiv for your Off-hand, which is very fast @ 1.5 and has +9 agility and 30.3 dps.

For your mainhand you can get a blacksmith to make you the coolest looking sword in the game, the Phantom Blade which is a 2.6 one handed sword with 32.7 dps.

Alternatively, if you go combat swords, you can also get the Dazzling Mithril Rapier for your off hand @ 1.7 and 28dps ... but I'd go for the ebon shiv.

Use Instant poison or wound poison on your main hand and deadly on your offhand. You're a rogue, poisons are your thing.

The only stats you should be interested in right now are, in order of preference:

- Agility
- Attack Power
- Critical Strike
- Hit rating
- Stam

If you see any gear with spirit/intellect/defense/and possibly strength on it, then you'll know it's not meant for you.

Option is correct, I was simply referring to weapons he could pick up immediately instead of waiting for it to chance drop off a boss etc.

Also check the AH, I picked up a lot of my blades on there between lvls 30-60.
