Web Africa ADSL general feedback

It's possibly just a problem with the route the traffic is taking. Do a tracert to the site with your WA and Afrihost account and post the results here for the WA rep.

Routing should have nothing to do with the fact that WebAfrica prioritise their capped account traffic. A few extra hops or different hops should not affect my speeds this badly for what I want to use it for. It's their prioritising rules which is causing all the troubles.

Do a traceroute to a local site and post the results back here.

By the time I did the tracert route my connection returned to normal, still slightly high though than usual.

So I have high local ping for about 5 hours (5pm - 10pm) at around 200 to 250ms, it defiantly wasn't my Pc or network.

Isn't the fourth hop usually the exchange? I'm pretty sure the second hop is still the router.
No the 2nd hop is the ESR/BRAS. 1st hop is the ADSL router. A traceroute usually never reveals your own public ip.

But I have a friend who is on the same exchange and doesn't have any problems on mweb.
Your friend is probably in the same area, but a single area usually have multiple DSLAMs or MSANs. Your friend is most probably on a different DSLAM than you are. eg. AREA X DSLAM 1 vs AREA X DSLAM 2.

It's strange because right now at this time my pings are fine.

If you're convinced your friend is on the same exchange and he/she has no problems then there must be a line fault (excessive noise/faulty card/bad connections etc) in your case.

How does the phone sound?

EDIT: Still the best way to test is with another ISP preferrably on a diff network

Thing is my friend stays about 10 - 15KM away from me but his number is also the same 031266

Sounds fine, line stats are also fine, I'm in contact with Webafrica support and they say that my line is at fault and have reset my ADSL port. I will be going tracerts and pings every hour to see if it resolved the problem and if my problem might be caused by connection as it seems everyone these days has it like a plague.

In real world experience we find the results just the same. Prioritising and/or throttling will have the effect of slowing those other traffic down. This is unacceptable for capped accounts.

I am trying to play a simple flash browser based live game, barely 50 kbps speeds needed ! WebAfrika's prioritising rules or what ever you want to call it, is having the effect that I cannot enjoy the experience. Now tell me why do I pay then for a 4mbps line and 30GB CAPPED account if you cannot even let me have that little fun, just because some wise ass or asses in WA think browsing needs to be prioritised above my needs? Why must someone else decide how I must use the internet?

Anyone knows of other ISP's that don't "prioritise" capped accounts ? WA must up their game or I am leaving them. As I said, when I switch to Afrihost accounts, I dont have that problem.

Your issue could be related to your line exchange but I would like to get our guys to take a look. Please PM me your customer code and contact details so I can take it further.

Dude...even if your friend's number start the same, and his house is right next to your house, you could still be on different DSLAMs. For every area, there is multiple dslams. Without knowing both numbers one can't verify whether you are on the same or different dslam.

More proof, when I was on a congested exchange the 1st time, I ordered a second tellephone line to the same house. When the old line got slow in the evenings aka congested, the other one was unaffected. First line was on Bellville North DSLAM 4, and the second on Bellville North DSLAM 5 IMAX. So even in the same house, with 2 different lines, they were on different DSLAMs.

If your latency is only certain times of the day, it is probably congested exchange. Normal living neighorhoods experience this 6-11pm where-as business neighborhoods experience this 9am-4pm.

Indeed, we have two lines in our office that are connected to 2 different DSLAMs.
