Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Something to bear in mind is that while you think these amazing promos generate a lot of goodwill, in my experience it generated the opposite. My capped account was performing flawlessly before these promos but after the free 50GB offer became available I could no longer download during business hours. As a result I have cancelled my service and am reviewing my options.I know other ISP's don't shape their capped accounts during business hours so makes no sense to stay with WA.

I do agree as my problems also started with the free gigs promo

We are sure you will be pleased to hear that we have updated and improved the Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) for our Business Uncapped packages.

What does this mean for you?

Our AUP is basically a set of rules to protect users who aren’t abusing their uncapped accounts from those who are. Your Business Uncapped Package will no longer be evaluated on the 5 Star Rating percentile based system, but rather on a simpler 3 category system.

The best news is that the majority of Business Uncapped users will now not be affected at all on the 3 category system. Approximately 95% of users will fall into the Great Experience category (Green); approximately 5% will be Affected (Amber) and only less that 0.1% of users will be Harshly Affected (Red).

Your usage within a 10 day rolling window will determine your category. If your usage falls within average usage patterns, you will continue to enjoy great usage on all services and usage types. Usage from midnight to 6:00am (Download Plus usage) does not affect your category.

The current category of your Business Uncapped package, along with how your usage may be affected is clearly shown and explained in your Customer Zone. Login and go to your Business Uncapped package under Internet Access. Click on the arrow next to View Details and select My Usage (DSL Console).

Please read our Knowledge Base article here for further detail.

Thanks for choosing Web Africa; it’s our mission to keep making you glad you did!

So are the thresholds different now?

Does green have the same thresholds as 5 stars?
Does amber have the same thresholds as 3 stars?
Does red have the same thresholds as 1 stars?

Giving those percentages don't really help as we have no idea what usage puts you in what pool.

Excellent thank you, reading it now.

*edit*. Blegh. Their business accounts have the same rules as the AH home uncapped accounts.

Wtf. P2P is now shaped on my WA Business Uncapped account even though this account is under the "Great Experience" uncapped category. Fsuk this  Fsuk Uncapped ADSL!

Like I said years ago already, don't sign up for an uncapped account with an ISP who has in the past said uncapped is unsustainable. Every year WA's policies just get more and more restrictive and people wonder why.

They're now even shaping their capped products into the ground. WA has always, and will always be, a gramma and grampa ISP. It's for grannies who want to check their email and facebook.

I haven't used p2p in months. That's so last century. You need to get some streaming going.

Not at all. AH shapes you regardless of usage. WA don't do that.

LOL - Facebook now being used by grannies, on WA. Anyhoo, my experience on capped is good. And I ain't a grampa!

Means nothing without how much day time usage you have done.

Mr Webafrica helper.

Can you check on ticket 2018965.
Last time I had any feedback they said they logged it with the upstream provider.
Then the ticket was closed automatically

Hi bboy,

I have requested that our team follow up and give you a call.

If I go for the capped 400GB, will I get shaped during the day?

Our capped accounts are subject to our bandwidth priority profiles and P2P/NNTP traffic are shaped during Business hours as well.

We have given you a clear explanation in your DSL console on why your account is being affected by throttling and what you need to do to get out of that zone. Most of your usage in the past 10 days on your 2mbs Business Uncapped account has been between 6am-6pm and 6pm-11:59pm. I have as well explained to you in detail what you will need to do to get your account out of the throttled zone in your previous post about this here but it doesn't seem like you made any changes to your usage patterns so if it continues as it has you will stay in the throttled zone.

This is how our uncapped works and is exactly what you signed up for. We do not hide the fact that we throttle or that we have an AUP in place for all our uncapped accounts and all this info is on our website as well as on our sign up pages.

You have the follow options available to you and it is your decision on what you would like to do:

  • Lower your daytime usage and push all downloads for 12-6am,
  • Upgrade to a bigger uncapped package as the 2mbs thresholds are not suited to your needs, or
  • Upgrade to a suited capped account so that you won't have to worry about throttling.

Also note that P2P/NNTP traffic is listed as 'best effort' on all bandwidth profiles as it is a non-essential protocol and all other essential protocols will take preference.

I'm busy downloading something through Origin.
Here is my WebAfrica usage for today, 10AM - 11AM, the hour I started the download.
10:00 - 11:00 1 241 846 499 bytes 1.15 GB
Here is NetLimiter showing that download:

Ok, fine, maybe it tracked it in the wrong hour. But here's my webafrica usage for the next hour:
11:00 - 12:00 737 004 297 bytes 702 MB
Here is NetLimiter showing that download:

If there were provisions, then they're not reflecting. The download between 10AM - 11AM is "double" ( or something ) yet nothing changes to accommodate this.

Hi XperiAnce,

Our team have confirmed that the usage discrepancies you see is related to the way we received the data packets from Telkom and we have also created a KB article to explain this. We are not inflating your usage and our console reflects the usage data as we receive it from Telkom.

I have sent you a PM requesting your customer code or email address so I can double check your usage pattern to make sure there is no issues. Please forward your details.

A business account that you can't use during business hours? Doesn't make much sense to me.

A business account that you can't use during business hours? Doesn't make much sense to me. For the price of biz uncapped - what a huge rip off.

It is a Business Uncapped account sold with an AUP attached which means it is subject to throttling based on usage. Again, all this info is supplied to any and all customers on our sign up page so if you took an uncapped account you should be aware of the AUP.
