Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Did Webafrica just die for anyone else ? capped account connects but cant resolve anything

I'm also having issues. The interweb doesn't load he he
On hold with support.

Internet is down for me too on IS.

After 17 minutes still on hold.
There is a problem in Durban. They are working on it.

Yep IS looks like it died for a bit. I am not with WebAfrica. I am using Plugg Uncapped and also just died. Prepaid Afrihost works fine.

Hi guys,

As confirmed on our status page there was an outage affecting the Durban area yesterday which has been resolved. Apologies for the downtime and if anyone is still having issues please let me know.

So was anyone else getting horrid speeds on the lower priority protocols after midnight last night ? Where I once had 17mbit I now have 5mbit (FTP), but streaming / steam unaffected and I tested this morning out of the download hours and got 17mbit again.

If I'm going to have performance degradation due to Webafrica encouraging downloading by using competitions I'd rather not be part of it at all and have a higher priority. This sucks.

This is exactly why I am now an ex-customer of theirs. I had a Home Pro capped account and noticed a sharp decrease in account performance correlating to their downloading competitions. Suffice to say, I am now with a different ISP.

As far as I'm concerned, Web Africa can take their downloading contests and shove it.

When it comes to price the only alternative I have seen was Afrihost (20mbit line so I use a capped account 200GB/200GB), I dont know how their capped accounts are these days as I moved away from them 2 months ago.

Any other recommendations would be welcome.

That's weird.

I'm on uncapped and was downloading torrents yesterday at 900kb/s after 00:00. And only because I wanted an extra 100kb/s so I could browse.

Uncapped home or business ?
Webafrica has told me in the past that the capped home accounts even though on the same bandwidth quality profile (On their information page) do fall in priority to uncapped business accounts.

For the first week or two of August my performance was generally fine and since then many days have gone pear shaped and I have complained on this forum and been told engineers looking into it. This morning was not great and after 3 or so, things did improve a bit but never got full capacity at all

Whilst I think this promo has great potential, I do wish their was an upper limit eg 500 gigs or something so that we don't all just DL for the sake of DL.

On the other hand I guess as long as I can get what I want without having to worry about reaching a cap, but my performance is not as good as it used to be, I win with the main issue and loose out a bit on speeds

I think yesterday was a good day for me too, but today back to degraded performance

That is absolutely shocking consumer service. Continue treating your PAYING clients like this and you will go far WA.

You know whats even worse, being told you cannot downgrade your service because its after the 25th even though you get billed on the first.

Downgrade to the 10gb free account (will take effect end of this month) then send cancellation through on the 1'st of next month. True you'll be with them a bit longer but it will cost you less if its any account > R100 really.

Awesome! Thanks! Forgot about that. I will never touch Web Africa again.

1 calendar month notice to cancel is completely normal. CuriouS is being a dick.

I think the fact that Afrihost is a major ISP and doesn't require the notice kinda sets a bar.

With regards to abusive customer, that was a stupid play by the customer service guy, cutting off someone who is already mad is just going to make things worse.

"I cannot help you any further in this matter, goodbye" would have been a more tactical way of handling it.
