A good few months back WA moved their mail servers for ISP clients to some or other international destination.

Every since then both incomming and outgoing mail has been SLOW and the servers generally unresponsive.

Over the past month this has been getting worse with the SMTP server constantly timing out, requiring a good many resend clicks in Outlook to get the mail off. You can also forget about sending long mails during peak periods.

I have moved my mail accounts to a local webhosting server as I can no longer put up with the frustration of simply trying to send an email (and receive). This annoys me as I'm effectively paying double bandwidth, ie. ISP and webhosting.

So, WA can we please have the local emails servers back.

Now that you mention, I have noticed slow connect times for pop3 to the webafrica servers - but only in the past few days, a week at most. If something specific has happened, it won't necessarily be resolved by moving the servers to local. After all, my gmail and yahoo.co.uk mail isn't slow.

I love Webafrica, but their email irritated the hell out of me. Yahoo group mail would disappeared or some in days late. I had to migrate to a gmail account and set up thunderbird to access it.

Webafrica email works great for me... I use my local only ADSL account to send/receive

I have an reseller hosting account with Webafrica, and have had to move customers to Hetzner because of the slow email problem. Webafrica is great with everything else, wish they could have better mailservers.

yes ive also noticed the email servers are reallly slow!! pls fix it WA

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback, its much appreciated, and our most sincere apologies for the inconvenience and annoyance this has caused everyone.

We had an emergency meeting and have been banding ideas around and we believe we have found a solution. We will be implementing it over the next 2-3 days, thus from there on we should have the problem resolved.

For a brief technical description of the issue - it was related to the authentication over our servers going over Verizons international link which has been up/down. What we plan to do is sync the authentication every few minutes, instead of attempting to do real-time lookups. We will be running a few tests tonight and hopefully we'll see how it goes.

We will be doing some tests on syncing authentication tonight and hopefully have it live sometime Saturday morning.
Ill update this thread as we progress.

Apologies for the delay on this. I ran into a licensing problem which needed to be cleared up with the program vender. This has now been resolved.I have made some changes to the SMTP connection timeouts Which should help.I will be moving Authentication over to the out bounce server tonight after peak time so I can run some tests before making it live.

Do the following: Change the POP 110 settings from - pop.webafrica.org.za to pop3.webafrica.org.za. Use the same SMTP 25 settings for webafrica, or change it to smtp.saix.net. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Oh and by the way, don't think it's hosted internationally...it works on local only bandwidth.
