Web Africa Hosting

Why is this an issue. Then you should not have a cellphone, car, etc... For every product or service provider out there I will find you someone who had a problem with it/them.

I have been hosting with WA for a few years and have a few big SQL DB's running and have not have a problem to date. WA even fixed some problems for me in the past that was actually coding errors from my developers.

I think this sensationalism should stop. Why don't you include a few links to all the WA praise out there.

It seems there are a few people out there who always just go and see how they can badmouth others.

PS. I also think we should start to give negative ratings to posters who only post links to old forum discussions.

Well personally I wouldnt be keen on hosting somewhere that has sql problems. Where im hosting currently I have never had a failed query.

And just by the way I really do support webafrica. Ive had problems with support but I still refuse to use anyone else for my bandwidth because they really are a nice company

Hi guys,

I was the agent dealing with Louis' query that he had posted on the Web Africa forums that was linked in the original post
I can assure you that we had tried everything on our end from rolling back a backup from the month before, temporarily migrating the site to both different IIS and database servers which had not made a difference on our end

Even though this issue was brought to the forefront it was not left un-attended and was resolved in a speedily manner, as all other queries that Web Africa receives

The issue seemed to come in when running an update query on the database. This has been resolved and the site is up and running as per normal

Unfortunately servers will not run as expected some of the time, but the 99.9% up-time guarantee that we offer definitely holds true
If there are any problems on our servers we have the necessary implementations in place to resolve any issue as soon as possible

I would like to take the time to thank hsmnel for the praise to Web Africa you have posted here, this is greatly appreciated!

Hey Jeff.

Did you find out the actual cause of the problem? I would be quite interested in what would cause that if it ever happens to myself

Well sometimes you can throw the best hardware at software, if something was designed bad, you will still experience problems.

Once had a very badly designed DB on MySQL, including very bad queries. The DB worked, the server worked, but a query would take literally minutes on a super power server. In the end it turned out, using indexes and optimizing the queries this could be changed down to literally seconds. This is all without changing any seconds on the server or the database software.

I have no idea what happened in this thread's case, but I can imagine something happened to the data in the database, whatever it was, caused problems and perhaps thats why the backup resolved it?

Evening guys,

@roguemat: The initial troubleshooting was thought to be a communication error between the IIS and Database Server however running various test scripts on the same server this was proved otherwise. A colleague of mine then proceeded to take a look at the coding of the site which was found to run multiple loop queries which could only be terminated after a certain period of time

We had also found that the variables being specified differed from the output of the coding
I am by no means an ASP developer, so excuse the incorrect use of terms I have used above
After the query was run enough times it started a back log, waiting for each query to complete and start the next, which caused SQL timeout errors

This ruled out communication issues as the IIS server and Database server are sitting within the same cabinet. The linked post to Web Africa's forum has been resolved completely by the client altering his code

@Tinuva: As mentioned above, both servers are running at performance and have only been recently rolled out into our data-centre
You are correct in your post, I have described most of what had taken place above. Regarding the rolling back of backups, this had made no difference because so many queries where being run at one time it caused a lock-out, causing the web page not to load correctly

I hope my post brings some clarification to this matter
