I would like opinions on why it seems that there aren't many local companies doing interesting or innovative work on web applications or have I just missed them?

Where are our Heroku, Squarespace, Freshbooks, ...?

I tend to disagree

Recent development here on my bb parcelcheck.co.za (by Koeks), I have seen one or 2 similar to freshbooks as well

I am sure there is quite alot actually going on, I know we busy with a few as well :)

This works :D

To be honest I don't find Google that helpful for this kind of query. Personal experience is more what I was looking for.

A good idea for my bb mods would be to make a sticky for newly developed apps section windows as well as web based

Also busy with some stuff, cannot say more than that at the moment... Hopefully will be able to soon.

I think you are right in the sense that there are not many developers coming up with innovative technology online in local circles, but there are quite a few who are dedicated to launching such services or technologies.

The problem, however, is that not many launch their services on the local market. I know quite a few local developers who wrote big programs for companies abroad. I know quite a few who launched big services that was eventually bought out by companies abroad.

The South African Internet market is way too small to make a profitable living from. Local developers will be better off targeting the international Internet market and sell their inventions abroad.

If something drastically could happen in the SA Internet market, I believe we will see a lot more local inventions in the spotlight. Currently the majority of them are sold abroad, with not many of us even knowing about it..

SnapBill seems to be on track.

I am in the process of launching an extremely scalable cloud based application within the next month, cannot give more info away at this stage - I will have a referral program where you can earn a decent commission for referral that results in a sale - you can PM me for more info, I will advertise more on this later.

There are many web based startups especially in Cape Town.
Not any I know of that are hosted in SA unless you call mybb a web app company.

Because you don't have the brain span to be original, that way i know you're just taking the piss.

Actually your attitude makes perfect sense now...

Maybe you should lay off the supplements?:)

Hulk rawr.

No I just trollin'. Especially with someone who signed an NDA then go posts on a public forum to PM him if you're interested to resell the product. How the hell would I know if I were interested if I didn't know what I was selling, and if this NDA was so precious, why offer that information in PM?

I've done a crap-ton of affiliate marketing and I still make about R2-3k commission a month on crap I did in 2007. i just found it hillarious he tried to pander his wares here and do the whole "it's a seeeecreet!" thing.

FYI the project I worked on ties into affiliate marketing API's that has clean data etc from people like Linkshare/CJ/Google/Amazon etc.

Busy launching it now. Proof of concept done a few months ago already with a minimum ROI of about 300% which isn't bad.
