I am gonna throw this in just to see if there is interest.

While downloading bittorrent files the outbound bandwidth associated with a torrent chews up your ADSL cap.

Would people be interested in a web based bittorrent downloader that allows you to pull down torrent files at your FULL ADSL connection speed without having to upload to other peers.

What would you pay for something like this? considering Telkoms pay per gig policy.

I am willing to set something like this up but I need to know that there will be a demand for it.

A web bittorrent. Now that would be a legal mine field. Who in their right mind will host something like that?

I have it in practice already.
just need to add user management.<pending>

This is not hosted in south africa so bandwidth is cheap.
when I download from this site It goes max kb for my adsl line.
I upload a torrent or paste a torrent URL into a form.
It downloads at a huge pace. I have capped my torrent upload speed at 100k.
should you wish to open the upload cap up the file will come down to the box in minutes.
It is located at a backbone server in miami.

I am willing to develop it should there be an interest in the service that would generate some sort of revenue for me.

P2P is throttled by telkom and it wastes outgoing bandwidth for users cap.
If you can avoid the hassels ..why not.

With regard to the legal minefield ...show me a P2P system that isn't riddled with legal implications. Of course it will stoke up legal issues.
Isnt that what the net is all about :)
look at allyoucaneat! poking telcocks capping legalites

There is nothing wrong with dipping your foot in the metaphorical P2P water, so long as there are steps to get out of the pool.

Great idea.

I am just thinking of the legal consequences. ..

@eel, you are going to have to cache the torrent somewhere first (I take it overseas), before downloading to the PC. What web host will allow you to do that? And you want to provide this as a commercial service. That means you are taking money and you are potentially selling pirated software, mp3s or movies. *ouch*

Also by taking money you know the identity of the downloader and what they have downloaded ... *double ouch*

I wouldnt be selling anything illegal
it would be like a web drive.
you download what you want to your site.
no-one else has access to your content.
you add your torrent
it downloads
you download it .
a block of Hard drive space would be alocated to a user
with a bandwidth limit.
and ..you gotta love paypal!

eel, the MyAdsl community allready had something like this... they loved it while it lasted.

But then the person who setup the service sort of dissapeared and stole the money from those poor souls who actually payed for it.

Slimothy ... so where is the fecker these days ???? ;).

What exactly did slim do?
no I am not he.
I was unaware there was something like this already.
what exactly happened?

That was a bit of light reading.
Slimy seems like quite the let down.
Well I guess that answers my questions. I will keep my web torrent thing to myself and my friends.
Although I have access to the bandwidth and the hosting space slimothy seems to have tainted the waters.
so long.

I understand the forward mapping of ports
the point of this was also to avoid using your cap for other peoples downloads.
