Currently I'm developing a new product, it consists of everything I learned about web design in my life, a huge ebook and illustrative videos showing everything I do step by step.

I'm asking everyone who is busy with a business online, or who wants to learn web design very fast, if they are interested in a product like this?

I'm not trying to sell anything here I just want to hear people's opinions if they will buy a product that will teach them years of web design experience?

Your comments will help me decide if this is worth my time or if I should rather keep it short and give it away for free

Thanks!

What is going to be your unique selling proposition? As there are many tutorials available online for free.

If you do decide to sell it as a ebook try to get it into ClickBank so affiliates can help promote it.

If you decide to give it away for free run advertisng such as Google Adsense or Amazon affiliate banners alongside it. Make sure the Amazon banners are related to the content, then you can say: "For more advanced tips make sure you read x book (link to Amazon)".

I started learning web design from the internet, I did not study it, or use any book. I only used free sources, and I can tell you that free sources are a bit confusing. There are online tutorials, but they are scattered everywhere, and it takes months to learn everything you have to learn.

It this book I'm putting everything together that I learned, to make my web design tactics easily understood and eay to learn. It will contain everything, from Fireworks, Photoshop, Dreamweaver to CMS like Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal.

So I think that is my unique selling proposition.

Clickbank migh work, I was and still is an affiliate for them, not a big one though. The problem with Clickbank is because there are something like 15 000 products, getting an affiliate to see your product takes months.

I think I will rather try Plimus

Products like this one don'treally sell on the net, people usually buy stuff like "make $10000000 in three hours" if you know what I mean. Will see what responses I get

If you only used free sources, then why not give something back to the community that taught you everything you know?

Sure I learned a lot from free sources, but I used that information to build my own technique.

I give a lot back to the community by helping people on forums each day, but I don't see the reason behind working for many hours and giving it all away for free.

Nice idea but if you think of the fact that you can get any/all textbooks for free via torrents etc. I do not know if a pay to read/buy module will make you rich, rather offer extra classes and incorporate the "course material into the "study fee's".

That way you make money, while offering classes and you can use your e-book as the course material.

that's just my initial thought on the subject :)

That's is just the thing, normal text books are 400 pages long and teach your web design from A to z, everything, no matter if it is useless. My product will teach you only the necessary tactics and skills required to design websites for whatever means they would want to do it for.

But yes you are right, my initial plan was to give it away for free and start to build a small "community", whom I can afterwards sell any new products that they might be interested in.

I'm not doing this to get rich, that's not the point of this.

I hear you, but think of for instance :

all O'Reily's books
photoshop bible etc.

w w w good-tutorials . c o m and such like, as well as forums on every thing that you might want to learn, with a bit of TIME you could do anything you want via the internet.

I still believe that the best module would be to offer physical classes - approach somebody like red door ( government something or other) and get funding to hold workshops / classes for the masses - government should assist in funding.

the above is only one option, but since the government screws us out of our money daily, get them to pay back some :)

start the community first, once you have a sufficient regulars, post "chapters" and let them pay for more - paid subscription method.

print a few and try get them published and market them to ... bookshops etc.

the list of what you could do is endless, now if you could excuse me I need to go google a solution to a .php problem I have.

If you say "it consists of everything I learned about web design in my life" - what server side and client side languages will you be covering? Or is it simply design and not development?

BTW there are dozens of tutorials out there on the web, me playing the devil advocate - what will you make your ebook so specials for peeps to dash out $$ for it?

I am a developer, and try do a bit of design....but the main issue there is not exactly knowing how to go about it (techniques, editing images etc etc). I have tried many free tutorials, but as mentioned in previous posts, it really gets you nowhere as the content is soo weak you learn nothing, or is at a higher level than what Im currently at. So I personally have struggled to get the learning started successfully with website design.

If you have a good product that can get the amateur to a level where they will be advanced enough to produce decent website designs, then Im all for it.

My opinion is that you can get taught principles and methods of design, after that its practice practice practice by ways of exploring your design tool. There is no ways that one ebook will make you an advanced designer...
