Web Development

I agree with shauntir. VB.Net is not a foundation. It is sand. Very hard to build on it.

I am pretty convinced anybody starting our with VB.Net at this stage does permanent damage to their CV. Some VB on a CV 10-ish years ago is all good and fine, since that is before C# became mainstream. But starting out with VB.Net now is not.
Hell yes. I detest anything vb.net. Its not a language . Its a bastardisation of vb to dot netify and OO-fy it. Double yuck

I actually think you should try to see what it is exactly you want to do.

Awesome sites to check out:

http://www.codecademy.com
http://teamtreehouse.com

These sites are cool tutors that get you into understanding how everything fits together and there you can see what you want to focus on : like teamtreehouse has this "course" thing that takes you through HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, JAVASCRIPT + advanced console commands etc.

Go try that and get an idea what you want to do, don't just register for something because sommer - I don't rate C# is exactly what you want to do to be honest :/

It seems like if you go the C# route then you must also know ASP.net, CSS, HTML and JavaScript.

I don't see any Desktop apps, Services and such jobs without the need of the above mentioned.

Wrong.

CSS, HTML, Javascript are not just required for C#. Node, Python, Ruby on Rails, Play(Scala), Spring , etc. Any field related to web development you will need to know the core aspects of it. Unless you have full time designers and you just do the backend dev.
