Hi

Does anybody know what the best way to do content filtering is? I want to stop the users, including me, of my network from accessing porn. I run Windows XP on two machines and Ubuntu on the third. I have Netgear Routers.

ZoneAlarm with content restrictions might work?

Don't know if ZoneAlarm works on Ubuntu, though...

There's a ton of good commercial tools out there - if your looking for free stuff, the best is to run a squid proxy with dansguardian. The advantage to this, as well as filtering out stuff, is that you can run reports of who uses/abuses your bandwidth.

Smoothwall, combined with Dansguardian, is a real effective solution against pr0n sites.

Just remember that you'll see a slight delay with web page loading as the web page requested is first scanned by Dansguardian for any forbidden content, whether pr0n, swear words or whatever, and if you also installed it, by clamav for any lurking viruses or trojans.

But that slight delay is worth having as you can have peace of mind knowing that juicy pr0n (oo, err :o) won't be making it past the firewall.

Plus, you can block the downloads of certain attachments as well.

I'm using it at my work, and Dansguardian also helps to combat spy and adware.

Depends ..

free - squid

Commerical - Websense , WebMarshall , ISA 2000/2004
