I need to create graphs on a website.
I am looking for software that is:
* easy to use
* producers great graphs
* allows users to format them on-line (change line colour, line thickness, title etc)
* must be very fast - remember our great broadband speeds in SA

What are good software packages to look at? I don't mind paying!

It's unlikely you'll find an off-the-shelf product that just works...what language does it need be written in and do you need it to be client or server side?

You could use the PHP based http://jpgraph.net/ to create the graphs but you'd need to write the frontend yourself. This would be the most compatible with older browsers.

If you want something that generates on the front end and don't mind having a requirement of a newer HTML5 compliant browser, you could look at something like http://thejit.org/ or http://www.rgraph.net/

Edit: I should re-read my posts before submitting ;)

Hi There,
This is not an area that I can say I am an expert in. I did a bit of research though and if I had to do what you are wanting to do I would look a bit more into the following :
Fusion Software has a great looking product. I looked at some of the chart types that it supports and the range and usage is extensive. Purchase is either suite or the appropriate components. They also have extensions into products like Dreamweaver to make the integration easier.
Jpowered has Java and PHP solutions. They also have tutorials on embedding graphs into web pages and other interesting articles on graphs and their use.

The pricing I will leave you to look at but you did indicate you don't mind paying. Fusion may though be a bit more than you were expecting if you buy the whole suite.

Regards and when you have finished the site, please send me a URL to look at it.

Tim

Pentaho (BI application) is also very good, but is targeted at OLAP databases.
Another interactive graph is HighCharts, which is like jpgraph, but more dynamic in nature. It will still require some custom front-end though.
