Hi Guys

Does anyone know any good website design companies in South Africa? Preferably in Western Cape, Cape Town.

It will be an E-commerce site design. Hopefully its reliable with good customer services as well as good price/value.

Thanks

Lots of digital agencies in Cape Town. Depends all on your budget because you get what you pay for.

If your starting out, then rather look at an off the shelf SAS product as an e-comm site can easily go over R100K just for a basic setup. Last year I had to quote R150K for a leading home designer accessory manufacturer.

wow that pricing is too high, we were looking at some more basic e-comm site design.
Budget is around R50k or less...

Thanks

Look at something based on Wordpress and a paid for Wordpress ecommerce plugin/theme. Do not do custom as you will get ripped off.

Also Wordpress allows for SEO guys to quickly add in the required SEO plugins your site will need to get your pages ranked.

You need to also consider a good payment gateway like payu.co.za but do your homework and make sure you don't get locked into any single vendor. There must be scope to add more payment options for your clients.

www.obox-design.com is based in Cape Town and one of the worlds top 10 leading Wordpress theme houses. Check our their stuff and give them a call.

Also make sure your going mobile else go home. Mobile ecommerce is the biggest thing as more people buy using mobile devices like phones and tablets than desktops in South Africa. Don't ignore this market so make sure the site is responsive.

I use to work for a leading SEO company last year and I'm also going to be making my own e-commerce shop for my wife's small business. The above is just a quick summary of my research that I don't mind sharing. You could even pull it off for R10K and your clients will be blown away. Just buy off the shelf components, don't allow someone to BS you into doing everything customas R50K is not enough.

thanks for your assist! I checked out the Obox website, seems pretty good. If you use their theme/design does it include a database? Like when a client register an account, add things to the cart, checkout and keeps a record etc?

Thanks

Hi Keymaster,

For the most part, cbrunsdonza is spot on. While I don't agree with everything, it's more nitpicking than anything else.

To answer your question - The obox chaps in Houtbay have been around for quite a while and they're pretty reputable. All of their ecommerce products are based on Wordpress (Free) / WooCommerce (Free) and has some amazing premium add-ons. Just a quick note, while the base items are free (Wordpress and WooCommerce), if you're looking for more advanced functionality then the cost starts adding up. I realise that you might not exactly know what is considered "advanced" and what should be considered as standard. To that end, I would implore you to do the following:

-- Read up on WordPress a bit (not too much, there's a ton of content out there). If you get to the part where you know it's a CMS and what a CMS actually means, you're good.

-- Read up on WooCommerce (Best place to do that would be at the creators' website - Bellville-based WooThemes, http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/)

-- Then look at the premium themes and plugins on WooThemes (Keep an eye on that dollar amount)

Of course there's also our own cloud-based system out there are well (available at http://gocommerce.co.za), and without wanting to punt it too much, we're very focused on bringing a South African solution to the table that addresses SA needs and integrates with SA companies. All of our directors are / have been online store operators themselves and have an intimate knowledge the ecommerce requirements out there.

Before you make any decision, have a look at this post where I discussed a few things you should consider before choosing an ecommerce platform (incl. things you should have sussed before you even start):

Hopefully this answers some questions - lemme know if you've got any other questions, I'm happy to help where possible.

Kind Regards,
Riaan - GoCommerce
