hi,i am looking at the webafrica 2mbps for R489 uncap

anyone here have it?
what is the speed u get?
how much can u download
trotteling sharping?
ping in games etc.

thank you :)

they switched to IS last week... 80/20% rule and 10 day rolling window apply there.

The service is initially Unshaped and when the usage exceeds 80% of the average, the service will be Shaped? What is the average/how is this measured?

By average we take the usage from all the users in the service. Then we manage the lower/higher of the average in this service.
Example: If there are 10 users in a service and the combined traffic for the last 10 days is 1000 GB, hence an average of 100 GB. However, three users did over 100 GB and 1 user did 90 GB. The other six users did under 60 GB. With the average set at 80%, then the average in this case is 80 GB. So the 3 users that did over 100 gigs and the 1 user who did 90 gigs in this scenario will have their relative priority to file sharing throttled until they fall into the 20% of high end users. Checks on usage will be done hourly and will be based on a rolling 10 days usage and adjusted accordingly.

so its per 10days
i thought it was per day

if they throttle you to what speeds do u drop?

Morning

As of the beginning of this month, new accounts are automatically signed up onto the IS backbone, we're running our migration with our existing customer base today :)
If your line is capable of 2Mbps, then that's the speed you'll get.

Have a read through our Uncapped Q&A here http://support.webafrica.co.za/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/760/0/home-uncapped-qa

You will have a star rating system, which will be displayed via your DSLConsole.

Hi Mika1000,

We no longer run of rolling windows with the migration to our new network as per: http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php/11440-Web-Africa-Network-Upgrade-FAQ. So I'm not sure where you got the 10 day rolling window information from and we are not working on exact mb/gb figures any longer but more on a percentage based system. The system takes usage and network capacity into account which is then updated dynamically.

thank you

i need to cancel my mweb first :( and it will take 30days :(

so hopefully in April i will move over to webafrica :D

cant w8 for 2mbps

good luck...

i'll stay away. i'm not a 4 year old that need stars to brighten up my day.

if your not happy with mweb, your not going to be happy with another ISP either. been there. done that. all the other ISP's dont come close.

i'm leaving mweb after tomorrow myself. i intend to try some other ISP's. each month another. but if i dont get one i like, i'll go back to mweb and its premium service. i'm skipping ISP's with rolling windows, stars or rating systems and a calender months notice.

unlimited or uncapped means just that but for some reason nobody in the ISP industry understand what it means.

I've signed up with 1 Mbps (on IS) and I'm pretty impressed. Get good speeds and pings :)

ya i will move
mweb cost alot, and there serive/speed went down alot lately
problems everywhere
most of the times i get like 50% of my linespeed and after i refresh a page sometimes several times it runs at full speed

when i got it 1mbps uncap last year it worked verry good, but from november 2012 it all went downhill

so i am gonna phone them tomorrow to stop my line/data from them and move over to webafrica, hope they work good

i work in the day,so only night time i will watch series etc,so a literly i if i download at full speed on 2mbps eveyday i get from work i will do like 150gb in a mounth so i think i wont get that trottle/ top 20% thing :)
so i think my stars will be high :D

but mostly i may avg around 60-70gb a mounth with a 2mbps

fingerprintz:
what pings do u get?
i play mw3 online and i am wondering what pings i will get:)

+1
will be doing the same and i hope other people will also start thinking this way, this is the best option we as customers have of forcing the isps to get their act together.

@WAJustin you say that the star rating doesn't run on a 10day rolling window but WAJeff says it does, who's correct then?
Below is a reply that WAJeff post
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ncapped-ADSL?p=9910270&viewfull=1#post9910270

"It's based on a 10 day window
20GB doesn't seem that excessive. If it is, you'll be moved down a star - which will mainly really affect your office hours downloads and things. After hours it should be pretty close to line speed.

Go on, give us a bash for a month" <end quote>
