This would be much funnier if it wasn't so frustrating.

I've been trying to have webafrica completely remove me from their systems, i.e. no client zone access, nothing. The chances of me having to use the specific account in question are absolutely zero for the rest of time. Now I'm not sure if this broke the feeble minds of their support staff or that they are simply illiterate but my conversation with them has gone from instructions on how to cancel individual services in the client area (of which I have had none for several months) to myself apparently accusing them of not reading my emails and a vague statement about data retention all the way back to the maximum derp of getting removed from their mailing list.

Seriously, follow below for screenshots of the conversation and tell me if I'm loosing my mind.

At least its better than:

We do apologize for the frustration and inconvenience caused.

We are working on recruitment at the moment to ensure call waiting times are reduced.

Your account is on a 5 star rating so you are not being throttled however you are having an issue with the latency. Blah blah blah, so after the test results:

Thanks for your results provided.

Please do note that the account will be shaped from our side during peak hours as per star rating.

Um WTF?

Hi Zander,

We're so sorry for the frustration caused by the emails we've sent you. I can assure you that we've removed you from our mailing list and you should not receive anymore emails from us - going forward.

Hi,

Please PM me your account details so I can investigate the above.

*facepalm* it's not about a mailing list, look at email chain, and I dunno, maybe the second line of my post?

Why this obsession of having ALL records of yourself deleted from WA database? What does it matter?

I think he's worried about all the kiddy porn he downloaded, and he's hoping WA will cleanse the records by deleting everything related to him. That's the only plausible explanation.

Yup, all that kiddie porn, I've already scrubbed all the other records, this is the only that remains, OCD compels me to have it removed.

To be honest it is just OCD, it's a loose end I'd like to have tied up, and it seems baffling that this simple (albeit strange) request is confusing the hell out of them.

I don't think it is confusing them. They have already stated clearly that they have to keep records for a certain amount of time. I think it is required by law that ISP's do this.

Let it go...

Lol, that's exactly what I thought!

Ill play devils advocate here. WA have every right to retain your client profile for historic purposes. Your account has left footprints through the time you have used it, and they simply cannot just remove it. Auditing becomes a big mess of parentless data.

If you have been removed off the mailing list, then you should have no problem. Why dont you change your password to something you will forget the next day. That way the account should cease to exist in your world.

as somebody who works in software, I understand the need to retain the data, and if you do not.. then so be it.

This morning I got through to someone who understood what I have been saying and they deleted everything no problem.

I don't have a problem with data retention or anything like that, there is just a frightening lack of transparency regarding retention periods for something which is supposed to be regulated quite strictly by the Protection of Personal Information Act.

After sending it to the FBI. Only someone with something to hide is this desperate to wipe out their "history" with an ISP.

You will not get away with it

Just kidding :D

despite these support issues, I still find their network the best atm!

Now if only they could sort out support and make their clientzone a lot easier to work on
