Webafrica Accounts Capping

Yes, rather complain about Telkom not complying with legislation in place that compels them to make local uncapped. It is their fault, not the ISPs and not IS's.

What is it with all these posts. You are getting what you paid for in the first place, if you get more you don't get charged for it!

There are some ISP's that charge you for overages or subtract it from the next month should they not cap you on time. Lucky for us IS is a bit more generous and don't do this. I'm pretty sure that you've gotten more than you paid for plenty of times, doesn't mean you automatically get a right to get more than you paid for every time!

Just be happy that you got it for a while and stop complaining about them not handing out free bandwidth that's costing them money!

Since your moaning about people moaning then how about this, there are a lot of people who seem to get 40gb or there abouts on 30gb packages. If they are going to do it then why don't they do it fairly across the board? It seems one person may get extra and another does not? Why does it work like this, everyone should be treated equally

They are just lucky. They certainly aren't picked or anything.

People must stop expecting more than they pay for and look at the root of the problem in the 1st place - TELKOM.

Yeah life is so fair that everyone must get extra!

Please don't kid yourself man, there is nothing fair about life and they don't do it on purpose either ;)

It's all about luck, one month you're lucky and another month you get capped one meg over 30gb. The capping mostly happens after disconnects and sometimes the system doesn't pick up that the next session should be capped. I can assure you that they're not sitting there picking random accounts and deciding that these are the ones that are going to be capped. It's the system that doesn't pick it up and cap correctly.

But I'm sure you would rather get spot on 30gb's usage every month than have one or two lucky months with 40 gb's. It's nothing about fair or unfair, more about lucky and unlucky.

Either way you get what what you paid for +more.

To make things fair, why don't we all just stop using our accounts when we hit 30gb's, that would be the most fair don't you think?

Fair enough (excuse the pun), and thanks for clearing my confused frustration on this point.

My TROUBLE with Telkom SA

After registering for an ADSL upgrade (from a normal telephone line), I had my share of problems. The overall setup was done in (just) 8 days - which is FAST for any Telkom standard.:p At Vodacom however you can get a totally new contract (24 months, inclusive credit verification) and this takes about 18 hours (from 15h30 to 9h00 the next morning, to be exact).
- At Telkom SA we even had another telephone number for 3 (THREE) days !! - For no apparent reason!
- It took some time before we realised THIS PROBLEM however and when we reported this fault to Telkom SA they could not understand what the problem was at first. Two days later they called us at about 09h00 telling us that everything is working. However when we checked by calling our cellphone the number displayed was still not our own! So we reported the PROBLEM again (the 3rd time)! Eventually at about 15h30 a technician came round to check for himself what was going on here. He called the exchange and told the people what had to be done there. About 30 minutes later he came back to check the progress and everything seemed to be in order again.
- At least I could then continue to setup my ADSL Router/Modem.
I must say that I do not like the Marconi Premium Router as much as the Mega100 Router which I had installed two weeks earlier at my friends place. (It seems that the Marconi does not have a MAC Address List to allow or reject devices from logging in. Could anyone tell me where this could be found? I have tried for quite some time to find this place!)

 Now I will first have to see how the telephone account looks like and who made calls to which numbers in the THREE days we had the other number !!

i think somebody, somewhere, upgraded their services...

got capped on webafrica on 30,48 GB... on the third of july! see what happens if you are capped for half a month and have to catch up?

well, trying openweb now and so far it seems great! gonna cancel WA and switch to them...

It's got nothing to do with the ISP, as IS does the capping
If you do 30 gigs in 4 days you're gonna get capped quickly... my new strategy is to use 2 different accounts at the same, one on a virtual pc, so each has lower daily usage. I'll report back later this month if it works!
