I understand that many protocols are "best effort" on WebAfrica Home Uncapped but after upgrading my package to 1mbps I'm getting around 10kbps on NNTP. Other protocols such as HTTP appear fine e.g. downloading Avast with FlashGet from cnet.download.com. Not expecting full speed on "download" protocols but 8% of max speed means this service is definitely not worth R290 per month. How's MWEB these days for NNTP traffic?

Hi stevenv,

Why don't you drop me a PM with your contact details and I'll arrange a free trial account for you.
That way you could test our network and see how it performs first hand.
Then you can draw your own conclustions and see if you like it or not. ;)

kind regards
MWEB Guy

Wouldn't say that many protocols are best effort with us, specifically for Uncapped.

It's mostly the downloading services, like P2P, NNTP and FTP. This only counts for business hours though, after hours it'll be faster - and Download Plus hours are open to do what you want. These prioritisations also depend entirely on what account you take out. If you're looking for low latency and the ability to download whenever you want - Home Pro or our Business packages are the way to go.

BTW - you can sign-up for a 3GB free trial here http://blog.webafrica.co.za/2011/03/give-web-africa-a-free-test-drive/ These are on the silver bandwidth priority, same as Home Uncapped.

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently on WA home uncapped which is why I was querying about MWEB as an alternative. Was getting 10kBps on 1 Meg line and 1 Meg account at 10pm on a weekend on NNTP while HTTP was still reasonable. Seemed to be much better last night but going to monitor over a few days, maybe just a blip.
